First time ordering here through GrubHub and was pleasantly surprised! I ordered the steak platter (came with steak, onion rings, and asparagus). I called the restaurant just to confirm that I wanted it medium well and asked for a side of A1 sauce. The lady on the phone was so gracious and sweet. When I received my food, I was so surprised at how delicious the steak was. It was well cooked, seasoned, and the asparagus was not soggy or overcooked, it as nice and crispy. The onion rings were yummy and I got my A1 sauce 🙂 overall I will order from here again. No wonder it is a staple here in town.

***** Updated review – June/2025

I returned to the Vic and once again had a great time. This time my wife and I went on a Friday evening and there were less people than on Saturdays. There were plenty of seats available in the restaurant area (where the band plays). Note that there’s a separate bar area but if you sit there you won’t be able to enjoy the live music.

In terms of music there was a duo playing (Chris and Nick) and they were great! They played classic rock, top songs and all the good stuff. I will definitely be back next time they come back to the Vic. I believe they play there on a monthly basis.

Service was great as usual. Our waiter (I believe his name is Jason) was super friendly and the waitress who was not serving our table but who remembered us from last time is also very friendly.

Food was very tasty. Their Margherita pie is delicious ($13.95 for the large pie) and so is their fries with cheese ($3.95 for the small one which served 2 people well). I paid $10 for a pitcher of beer and my wife $6 for a glass of wine (which they refilled and didn’t charge).

I wish more people knew about this place because it was a great Friday night, great weather but there wasn’t a lot of people there. Not all bands that play there are as good as Chris and Nick but there are some other good bands like Red Rox and a few others. Check their Facebook or Instagram page for the line ups.

*****Original review:

I visited Vic on a Saturday evening and had a great time. There was a band called RedRox playing that evening and it was great.

We arrived late (after 11pm) so there were tables available in the dining room area where the band plays. This area has some regular long tables and some high tables that seat up to 8 people. I assume earlier all tables were taken so if you’re planning on going on a Saturday evening I would suggest you arrive earlier. The band plays from 9ish to midnight and it’s a different band every weekend, check their instagram for the schedule.

There’s a separate bar area but people from that area can’t see the band. Staff is friendly, our waitress was the best! I will return, try their food and update my review but for now they deserve 5 stars!

I came across The Vic Tavern through the company I work for. We had a company meeting. We were all (15) well taken care of. Being my first time there I was pleased to know that it wasn’t jus a bar I would always pass by and was never curious to go in . Now it’s a favorite place and the pizza is amazing. Everyone there treated all of us in a very professional manner.
So stop by and see for yourself.
I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
Keep up the good work ‼️

Great neighborhood tavern. Small bar with a pool table and a backroom with live music on most nights. The pizza is thin crust and everything on the menu is delicious. The waitstaff and bartenders are wonderful.

GREAT food every time I’ve ordered, far better than most bars. Tough place to shoot pool during league nights because of space, and the pockets are absolute buckets.

Wander down to the south End of Bayonne and take a step back in time (building is 100+ years old) . .

Like bars used to be before they got invaded by cell phones. Pool table, police patches from NJ and NY plastered above the bar as well as memorabilia from less complicated times all around – it’s just super laid back. But also a dose of Jersey.

Plenty of beer and liquor (not so much wine). Sandwiches, ultra thin crust bar pie pizza + bar bites.

I run ‘The Bayonne Chess Society & Club. The owner, Al, approved me, about holding events at his spot. I hadn’t been to the Vic prior. I went to check it out.

Very nice place. Large restaurant area in the back. We agreed to try out Monday nights. It went off without a hitch. Some of my members attended. Some of his regulars joined in. We are and drank as we played.

I had a cheesesteak sandwich and fries. Delicious. Prices were reasonable. People had a good time. Also had someone attend, who came to play Scrabble. There were two moms with their kids eating. Some played chess. I taught two of the kids how to play dominoes.

It’s now a regular Monday event. Good place. Good food. Once atmosphere. What more could you want.

Charming little neighborhood bar. Bartenders super nice. Large pie with 2 toppings and 2 drinks was under $30. Pizza was super fresh, light and not greasy. Great experience and would definitely come back.

Some of the best thin pizza in all of NJ. We love to grab a few for the ride home whenever we go back to Bayonne. When we stay to eat, the pies out of the oven are amazing. Will be heading back soon with a couple of the old BHS guys soon in fact. Love this place!
