Stoped in this gem today for breakfast at Erie St Kitchen but given its Saturday and game day, there was a bump ordered from Venice Cafe. Beautiful presentation and delightful delivery!

Back in town to visit with friends and it was so disappointing to come back to somewhere we used to love to go, and it was so unwelcoming. The bartender made us feel like she was annoyed when we were deciding on drinks, it was uncomfortable. We won’t bother to come back in next time we come to visit Kent.

Every time I go I try a new one of their featured cocktails. I’m never disappointed! The last time I had the purple punch and it was so good, didn’t even taste the alcohol! Looking forward to go again during open mic night, some cool local artists are playing.

The menu says Erie Street Kitchen, but it is inside The Venice. I went on a Saturday night at 6:30, and it was pretty busy. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. You order food at a counter and wait for it to be delivered to your table. We had a chicken tender po boy with hushpuppies and a lobster roll with lobster bisque. My friend liked his po boy and when asked if he would order it again he said absolutely. My lobster roll was the best one I’ve ever had. I travel for a living and have had them in many cities on the coast and was shocked to sample one that was so tasty and jammed full of meat this far from an ocean.

Great food. Good beer selection. A kent mainstay. Trivia pre-pandemic nights were the best. Go here always.

The Venice Cafe is actually a bar from 1941. The Erie Street Diner is in the same place. Our bartender was PJ. Excellent fellow! Served good drinks, local information and we dined from Erie Street! What a jewel both places are. I highly recommend it!

Excellent southern food that, for Clevelanders, rivals if not beats BSBR or even New Orleans. Excellent shrimp and grits, lobster poutine (ok that is a french canadian spin), and Jambalaya. The chef was walking around greeting tables. It was a big night in the area- some type of “Beatles live music in every venue” – so we were lucky to get a booth to sit in and enjoy the music. The drinks were well-priced. Three out of our party of five were drinking and we walked out at $120 with tip. So, perhaps not for the college students and they appear to know that is not their market but great considering just about everywhere else. Great Friday night!
