The atmosphere here was fantastic! It looks and feels upscale yet affordable. I had Collard Greens, Mac & Cheese, and Meatloaf!!! Yes Meatloaf! The Mac & Cheese phenomenal ! Collard Greens left something to be desired but I think its more of a me thing, they had some meat in them but not much. Still passable though. The Meatloaf felt like it’s been sitting for awhile. Which is my fault I went there last minute right before closing and they were only doing to go orders. It still had tons of flavors just was a little tough but I can tell if I got there earlier it would’ve been great! I gave the service a 3 star because I didn’t really get to experience any service I was there for all of 5 mins but I can’t wait to go back because people the atmosphere alone is worth it! So if you’re into Soul Food and want to go out to eat and not break the bank here in Tuscaloosa here’s a solid option!! I know I’m coming back!

Great customer service. I had the Fried pork chop with collards and yams. Collard was great after I added pepper sauce. Yams were yummy. Cornbread was blah. Could not even crumble to eat with my greens.( southern eating) Mom had fried chicken with cabbage and yams. Chicken was delicious and fried perfectly. Yams had a bit too much nut meg for her and cabbage was ok. I must say if you can’t make cornbread. You can never go wrong with jiffey. I ❤️ collard with cornbread.

Pork chops were ok but not as good as I expected. Collards were not good enough to eat until I added hot sauce. They tasted like they were from the can. Macaroni and cheese looked great but it was tasteless. The cornbread muffin was ok but kinda hard. If I patronize again I’ll be trying something else. I was disappointed but I ate it.

The service was not good at all. They set us down pretty fast and took our drink order but took 30 minutes to get our drinks. Took us almost a hour to get my husband and son food it did take an hour to get my food. I order the chicken finger snack and fries with BBQ sauce. My son wanted honey mustard and when he got it is was expired. There was only 1 bottle ketchup they passed around to the tables. There was a party of about 15 people and then a party of 2 then our party that had 3 people. That was all that was in there. Had to wait on togo boxes and then my husband had to walk up to the front to pay for it. I walked out to the car by then because if I would have stayed in there I would have refused to pay for my food because I did not eat it. The fires was hot but not all the way done the chicken finger did not have any flavor to them. I will not be going back. Plus they had people walk in and place orders that was getting there food before we did.

Screaming all the way from The Historic Town of Hobson City AL, THANK YOU! Today was my first experience at The Velvet Spoon. The Mayor and I stopped here on the way home for some soul food and I must say this is the BEST soul food away from home! They young lady at the front desk was so pleasant and everything was done in a timely manner. God Bless you all and we will certainly be back!

Tried for the first time yesterday, around lunchtime. I had the meatloaf, mac and cheese and turnip greens. Service was fast, and the food was good. I didn’t get a picture of the blue velvet cake, but it was delicious as well. Will go again during dinner so that I can try one of the mac and cheese bowls. The menu after 4pm is different than the lunch menu.

Best food in the city hands down, but the service is horrible, I went in on Friday during my break to get lunch. I ordered neck bones Mac and cabbage I set in the waiting area for an hour exact I know it usually takes 15-20 mins for your order to be done. Nobody checked on me so I proceeded to ask the waiter with the glasses is there something wrong and when she asked the guys in the back they said they made it already and she gave my food away then she asked the guys to fix it again which at this point I’m just hungry and ready to go because I set in there my entire lunch break just so she can tell me they’re out of the things I ordered I was pissed and demanded refund and left I want to go back for the food but can’t get passed the service and this was the second time this happened to me at this restaurant only calling in for now on because I do like the food

Our waitress was attentive, not overbearing, and kept us up to speed, so we really appreciated her. The kitchen was slow and out of more than they should have been out of that early in the day. There’s still a bit to do in finishing the decor, but I like where it’s going. The food tasted good but not great. I think better quality ingredients would yield a better product.

The food was delicious and well packaged. It had a clean atmosphere and friendly owner and staff. I eat there weekly and enjoy the neck bones, pork chops, chitterlings, meatloaf, and much more. All vegetables and desserts are delectable!
