The Tavern burger is $22 and it comes with fries. The fries were good (nice and crispy) but the burger was dry. It cost us $78 (with tip) for two burgers and one milkshake. We each had water. The ambience is nice but the food is not very good. You are better off going to the buffet just down the stairs for the same price and it is much more satisfying. Do better Upstate Tavern!
As I was passing by the bar, two waitresses (I’ve included their pictures) were making nasty comments about our family with kids. One of them openly displayed her attitude towards us. Our kids were hungry and upset, and we had a terrible experience.
Our check was over $1,500, and they charged us 20% in tips. I guess the stuff okay about our money even though they ruined our day at the beginning.
They didn’t want to take our orders, finally two girls (Amy and Emily) took our orders and they actually were the only ones who were professional and nice, I hope they got all the tips, not the rest of the snakes.
The food was okay, but the portions were extremely small for the kids. If it weren’t for the blizzard and our hungry kids, we would never have stepped foot in this place again.
The food: we started with the poutine as an appetizer and it was delicious! The portion was so generous that we probably could have just had that as our meal. For our main selections, my wife had the Cobb Salad and I had the Shaved Beef on Weck. Both were excellent, both were very generous portions. We would have loved dessert, because the ones we saw other diners enjoying looked great, but we were full.
Something that really stood out: towards the end of our meal, a well dressed gentleman approached us and politely asked how everything was. I’m assuming he was the manager. We told him we were pleased with everything and he thanked us. Now, we really appreciated that, because that doesn’t happen at most other establishments. That is a sign that a place really cares about, and works hard to please, its customers.
To sum up: this place is great, delivered in all the ways we value, and is fairly priced to boot! Highly recommend!
I also ordered a side of the truffle fries, which were fantastic! For lunch, I ordered a burger, but I never took a picture.
The end of our 1st night included a stop for this phenomenonal Chocolate Toffee Brownie Sundae. I am a huge dessert person, and this was everything I hoped for and more. Definitely big enough for 2 to share.
The following day, we came back for lunch. I ordered the corn chowder to start. Absolutely delicious! Thick and creamy, great consistency. Hubby ordered the Tavern Signature Burger, and I got the Tavern Everything Melt. We shared both sandwiches plus the fries (1 regular and 1 truffle). He absolutely loved the whiskey glaze on the burger, and I thought the Melt was amazing. Truly great food that was absolutely worth the money.
We visited literally right after the Christmas holiday, and it seemed like they were short-staffed. Kudos to the staff for keeping everything running smoothly. Front of house was moving quickly to attend to the tables, back of house was doing all they could to put food out without losing quality, and the manager took off his suit jacket to help clean and set tables. Obviously, great leadership and hard-working employees.
Thank you for 2 great experiences. We will be back on our next stay!
