I wouldn’t come here again, that’s for sure. Avocado toast wasn’t toasted, avocado was a mash that was super sour, like what you would get at Subway and the bread was limp and floppy. The order came with eggs but the server didn’t ask how we wanted them, and when I reminded her, she was like, “Oh Yeah” that’s just inattentive service.
My poached eggs came in a bowl with all the water so I had an egg soup and my companions eggs were basically McDonald’s quality liquid eggs. Hash browns were burnt and had zero seasoning and the pancake wasn’t even warm… the butter didn’t even melt and the syrup was cold with an off putting taste…. The fruit side is orange slices so that’s cheap. The bacon was Daily’s bacon so it was good but that’s it. They don’t offer any other coffee choices other than hot coffee which was flavorless and watered down.
This place was lower than mid, including service, honestly and I hate to say this, but high-key, Cracker Barrel has a 5 star breakfast compared to here.

The food was very good and served promptly. We were there later in the afternoon, which might explain the atmosphere not many people and the people that were there seemed like it was a chore just to come out to get a bite to eat.

I ordered a Caesar salad with chicken and steak. The chicken was dry, the steak was well well done, and covered in a balsamic reduction. The salad overall was terrible. The only thing good was the dressing. The salad was lightly dressed with over-cooked and dry protein. Why would you put balsamic reduction on a Caesar salad? They also forgot bacon on my partners dish, and came back with two tiny pieces. Not going to return. Service was okay, fairly slow overall though for not having more than 4 tables when we were there.

ChatGPT recommended The Trough to us & we were not disappointed! Our first day & first meal in Montana on our trip was perfect. We sat on the patio and enjoyed a lovely fall afternoon with beautiful view of the mountains and friendly conversation with our waitress. We recommend the Farmer’s Skillet and the turkey sandwich. Customer service when the owner is gone is lacking – he’s so nice and welcoming. After aggressively being told to go to the host stand when we came in the side entry, we waited 1 full hour for a table with 5 other people and three babies, and I’m pregnant. Never got any accurate wait times. Decided to finally leave after an hour. The girls running the host stand were rude. Great first impression for the new guests we invited. They said they’re never going back. Just lost the business of three households, and we were regulars. Decided to get brunch at Ruby’s. Got seated immediately, and they are military friendly. I worked in the restaurant industry and in customer service for a long time, there’s no excuse for the attitude and complete disregard for providing service that we encountered today.
