Lunch was great today–was on the road, so had the oysters. Can’t wait to return to the area for some fresh trout! 1y.

We saw the restaurant had a great score on Yelp but we were 50 minutes away. We made the drive and I have to say out was well worthwhile. The trout dip starter was excellent — super creamy. I had the gochujang ribs which were a special — excellent flavor. We were stuffed but went for the ooey gooey cake — also wonderful. This is an instant favorite. We’ll be back.

Well worth the 1hr drive from Erwin, TN. My family is originally from Ohios appalachia and my husbands is from over in Andrew’s, NC. Both of us were raised most of our lives down in SWFL. We love trying new restaurants and The Tin Trout came highly recommended. Living in SWFL we know good food and fine dining. I have worked front of house with world renound chefs. My husband was trained under a world renound chef who has even judged on one of Chef Ramsay’s shows. While this restaurant isn’t technically fine dining the food is definitely fine dining quality. We were greeted by a smiling hostess who sat us promptly. Our server with a smile was at the table immediately to greet us and take our drink order. I love they bring a board and leave it on the table with all the specials for the night. We ordered the Carloina poutine, which was out of this world. We have a restaurant back home in Ohio and that’s the first thing I do when I get to town. These ones were better. I ordered the grilled trout ( fresh trout is my absolute favorite) with bacon green beans, and mashed potatoes. The trout was grilled to absolute perfect with perfect seasoning. The bacon green beans tasted like gran made them. The mashed potatoes were perfectly seasoned as well. My husband ordered the crab cakes with bacon green beans and loaded potato cakes. With my husband’s culinary experience it’s hard to find restaurants where he is truly impressed by the seafood. He couldn’t quit raving about the crab cakes and my trout. I tasted the crab cakes, again absolute perfection. Our daughter had the chicken fingers and fries with ranch. The chicken was juicy and the breading nice and crispy, she loved them. My child judges a restaurant based on the ranch. Yall definitely passed the vibe with the 12 year old. Of course we ordered the banana pudding. That was always one of my favorite things my gran made growing up. Today is the 8 year anniversary of my grans passing. So I wanted a restaurant I know she would have loved. I wanted to be able to enjoy food that reminded me of her cooking. Thank you for making that happen. This meal meant more to us than you will ever know. We arrived right after they opened back up for supper so we had zero wait time. The restaurant started to fill up fast and there was definitely a wait when we left. So I suggest arriving early as they close at 8pm.

I rarely get excited to post a review after visiting a place for the first time – but I’m excited to post this.

Backstory. We’ve lived in the area for 3 years and often considered, but never eaten here. Why? Can’t get adult beverages. We generally don’t eat out unless we need an escape and as such, I like to have a cocktail.

Then I learned you can BYOB here and once I knew this, it was on the list.

Very comfortable spot. Easy parking and loved the corner booth.

Get there early. We arrived at 530ish and were sat immediately but by 645, there were folks waiting (short wait, and this is peak summer season).

Server was amazing. Didn’t hover but was anxious to take care of us.

We started with the fried oysters app and hushpuppies. Both were exceptional. The oysters were lightly battered and fried (oil was fresh). HPs were insanely well done. Moist throughout and so flavorful. The chow chow was great as was the remoulade.

I got the fried shrimp basket (added flounder) with fries, slaw and collards.

Shrimp and flounder were lightly breaded and again, the fresh fryer oil was a win.

Slaw was the only thing I didn’t love. Fries were fine but I’m not a battered fry guy.

Collards were above average.

She had the fried chicken and it was so dang good. Closest comparison was deep fried turkey. Well seasoned, moist, light and no breading.

And then there was the coconut cake. I don’t have a sweet tooth, but it was very good. Their dessert offering is special on it’s own right.

Pack a cooler (if that’s your thing) and check this place out sooner than later.

Everyone was so nice and genuinely seemed happy to be working there.

Thank you for a wonderful experience!

(Oops forgot the pickles, what a great warm up and palate cleanser).

Cool spot. Feels very local. All scratch made.
I had the trout dip. It was ok. It didn’t have a lot of trout in it. Seemed like a bit too much cream cheese. I probably wouldn’t recommend it.
I also had the fried oysters and they were the star of the meal. The breading was excellent and they were fried perfectly.
I tried the shrimp and grits. It needed something I couldn’t quite land on. Maybe salt. It was good, just a bit bland. I also thought it needed more grits. It was quite soupy.
Service was excellent. People were all nice.

We fish the area and have passed by for years. Today we came up to enjoy Linville Falls Winery and decided on dinner at The Tin Trout.
We came as the door opened at 5 for dinner. The place was so cute and we enjoyed sitting in the back area with the windows. Ordered drinks (they do not serve alcohol but you can bring your own in according to their menu! Note to self: bring a bottle of wine next time !) and we were given a complimentary bowl of homemade pickles which were so good.
Our server was polite and we didn’t wait long for anything we needed .

Appetizers: we went with the Trio of dips. Smoked trout, pimento cheese and bleu cheese dips – opted for the pita instead of saltines for 1.50 upcharge- they were all delicious and the warm pita bread was fantastic to dip in them- I do wish you got more pita because it’s a lot of dip- so I ordered extra pita. The dips were wonderful but definitely could have done without green onions on all of them.

Dinner: *shrimp and grits- doesn’t come with a side so added collard greens for additional charge. These shrimp and grits were fantastic and I could’ve licked the plate. Collards were also delicious and perfectly cooked and seasoned – though I added vinegar to them because ….they were mine and that’s how i eat them
The shrimp and grits were so good 10/10 but again- didn’t need green onions
He ordered the *chicken & waffle with hot honey. Definitely did not need green onions. It’s like a theme they’re running with ‍♀️
The chicken had good crunch to it and the waffle had good flavor and the hot honey drizzle added a nice touch of sweet/spicy- though We do wish they gave you a little side of syrup or something because it was a bit dry but still excellent.

Dessert: holy cow. Stop right now because I would go back just for dessert – there was a lot of options and ran $8 each. We were splurging so bought three different ones
*The ooey gooey butter cake with ice cream should not be missed – oh my gosh it was good – buttery, rich- just do it, take my word for it that you definitely won’t regret it.
*Lemoncello mascarpone cake was light and not overly sweet- it was refreshing and just the perfect lemon taste
*Dubai chocolate cheesecake was phenomenal. Again not too sweet. The textures together of the layers were really nice and the chocolate ganache on top was really delish.

Overall it was a place we would return to. But I would next time ask that they leave the green onions off of every single dish (don’t worry, desserts were spared from them )
The food was just really flavorful and the atmosphere was really cute, inviting and relaxing.
The price was fair and with appetizer, extra pita x2, two entrees, add on a side side , three desserts and two drinks we spent $78 and it was the best meal we had in a while on a date . We can’t wait to come back and check out their burger and other menu options!!

Tried today for the first time. It’s a cute little place. The waitstaff was all very friendly and professional. Restaurant appeared to be clean. One of us got the Cuban sandwich with collard greens and the other got the smash burger with the loaded Mac and cheese. I personally liked the burger better than the Cuban but the Cuban was still very tasty. Part of the pork was a little tough, the collards were subpar, nothing spectacular but not bad either. The smash burger was pretty greasy, but it’s a smash burger so that’s what to expect lol. But it was very tasty with the bacon jam and special sauce. I felt like the loaded mac and cheese left a little to be desired. Definitely wouldn’t get it again. I do feel like the wait time for two pretty simple dishes was a bit long. Almost 25 minutes and it wasn’t busy quite yet. Took the server a bit to get us our check after we finished eating. There were several other things on the menu that I’d like to try and their dessert menu looked absolutely delicious. I will definitely try a dessert next time and I want to try the poutine. Has a cute little gift shop right when you walk in. Overall, it was pretty good.

Truly, a not so hidden gem! Food was so good I literally teared up at one point. The locals are so lucky to live close by to this restaurant.
Everything we ordered was magnificently prepared. We were only disappointed that we couldn’t order more items. So we are coming back to try some of the things that we missed the first time through.
Our server Joe led us through some of his favorite menu items to help us with our decisions.
We started with the fried oysters, which were as good as any we have ever had, including New Orleans and including fine dining restaurants. The seafood chowder was also very well done. For entrees, we had the grilled trout and the chicken and waffles. Trout was prepared perfectly it was moist and excellently seasoned and came with the best potato cakes I have ever had, light and fluffy and filled with cheese and bacon. The fried chicken and waffles were the best we have ever had in any restaurant anywhere and were even better than the ones I prepare at home. Dessert was also as excellent as every other part of our meal.
The entire staff was so friendly and accommodating. They made us feel like family.
I could not recommend this restaurant any higher. It is a must stop and a must return! Thank you for taking such good care of us.

Had my birthday lunch here. Fun atmosphere. Turned an old garage into a restaurant. Started with fried green tomatoes $6.99 (not pictured) with hot honey drizzle on the side. Fried fish (flounder) good-sized portion with slaw (bland) & fries $14.95. My grilled trout was a very small thin piece for $15.95, but it was tasty. The bacon greenbean side was pickled (vinegary). Tiramisu was incredible $8. Service was decent for a busy Friday lunch. The back dining room was warm. The back dining room would have a nice view of the creek IF they would put the tables and chairs up on a rise. Lots of parking out back.

Food was good. Got the fried flounder plate. The flounder was fresh, but prefer a coating on fried fish, no coating at all, also prefer standard homemade tartar sauce, food serviced with remoulade. Sauce good but not my preference.
Very positive was the excellent fried coconut shrimp. The best I have eaten. Also the cornbread skillet was good. The food we got was priced good. Overall experience very good and will go back, do recommend! Love the decorating inside the resturant.

Quirky decor meets quirky menu choices alongside more traditional options. A popular lunch spot with a 10 Minute wait for a table. I had Shrimp and grits with Fried Oyster appetizers and fried Yucca as a side. My husband had Glazed Meatloaf, Sweet Potato Fries, and Broccoli Salad. The food was delicious and even the bathroom is cute! I will definitely eat here again.
