The Terrace in Christiansted often draws diners in with its reputation and atmosphere, but a recent visit proved that even the best-located establishments can be undone by a catastrophic breakdown in service. While the setting remains pleasant, the operational inconsistencies on this particular evening made for an exhausting rather than an enjoyable experience.

The Service Dead Zone
The primary issue of the night was an inexplicable delay in the kitchen-to-table pipeline, which seemed to be isolated to a single server: Tim. While surrounding tables—manned by other staff members—saw a steady flow of appetizers and mains, our table (and every other table in Tim’s section) was left in a holding pattern.

It took 1 hour and 20 minutes for our entrées to arrive. The frustration was compounded by the fact that Tim effectively disappeared for the majority of the meal. A long wait is one thing; being “ghosted” by your server while other sections are humming along smoothly is quite another. It suggests a significant lack of floor management and communication between the front-of-house and the kitchen.

The Gratuity Rub
The final disappointment came with the bill. Despite being a party of only two, a mandatory 20% gratuity was already applied to the check.

While auto-gratuity is common for large groups, applying it to a couple—especially after a service experience defined by long absences and extreme delays—feels less like a convenience and more like a safeguard against the natural consequences of poor performance. It removes the diner’s ability to provide feedback through the tip, leaving a sour taste that no dessert could fix.

The Verdict
The Terrace has the ingredients for a great night, but the “luck of the draw” regarding your server shouldn’t determine whether you spend your entire evening waiting for a plate. If you go, hope you aren’t seated in the service “dead zone,” and keep a sharp eye on the fine print of your bill.

This restaurant is on the more pricey side but if you are willing to spend the money I think it is decent. The ambiance of the restaurant is unmatched and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. I ordered the crispy thai chicken and the chicken was very nice but I found the sauce to be slightly overpowering especially as I was finishing my food. Besides the sauce, the vegetables and noodles were also very good and they added a nice flavor and texture that complemented the chicken. The service was mediocre for what I would expect from such a restaurant.

Lovely view & atmosphere! The hostess was absolutely wonderful in all possible ways! Our waitress had an attitude right from the start, barely checked on us, put a damper on our Anniversary dinner!

Went to see #GyasiClarke. Food and wine were tasty but vibe and breeze were so much better. My waiter, Henry, was very pleasant and attentive. I ordered the Lobster Gnocchi.

I made a 10am reservation on the resort website, but when I arrived they informed me that they stop serving breakfast at 10am. They said that my husband and I could serve ourselves from whatever was left. For the price, it was disappointing. However, our server was very pleasant and made us feel we didn’t have to rush, even though they were starting to clear everything.
