I called from North Carolina to see if they could help me cheer a friend up that was staying in Portsmouth. Taylor could not have been more kind, and went above and beyond in helping me get an assortment of bakery items and pastries to my friend and her family. My friend said everything was delicious!

I ordered a cake and cupcakes when it was still Kathy Sue’s for my friend’s wedding. When ownership changed I reached out to make sure my order was still okay. Confirmed it was. Showed up and nothing. no cupcakes or cake. Taylor said they no longer do cake or cupcakes.

The explanation was that Kathy told me incorrectly and they couldn’t fulfill it. As the new owner, she could have reached out and informed me ahead of time instead of relying on Kathy. Especially, after I tried verifying my order a couple weeks ahead of time.

Situation was not handled well. She kept saying she didn’t know what to do and that she couldn’t do it. She said she would message a few people to try to find someone to help. I said okay I’ll wait around for a little bit to see if there was a reply and in the meantime look up other bakeries. I could hear them in the back discussing my situation and kept mentioning that I’m just standing in the lobby. I left after she said one person said no but hadn’t gotten a response from others. She said she’d message me if they reply.

There was no solution offered, no one reached out to me, and I never even got a message from her about the other person she messaged. The entire situation was a nightmare. There were so many chances to work with me or attempt to rectify the situation. Instead I had to attempt to find replacements the day before a wedding.

This is the best bakery in Portsmouth, Ohio. They blend old with new. I always make it a point to stop here every time I’m in town. AND I must take their pullaparts back to Texas!!

So we were in town a few weeks ago and we were looking around Market Street to see how it had changed. We went into this store and met the new owner and she was wonderful. She was closing and let us come in anyway. She told us how she had just bought the place and would open soon. In all the years I spent growing up in Portsmouth, we never went to Counts. We always used the Bake Shop. She planned to keep the same recipes. Let me just say “OMG’. These pastries were literally some of the best things I have ever had. The cookie sandwich with the creme in the middle…wow. The rolls are just like the old fashioned rolls you got at K&M and Towne House. I am trying to figure out how I can go back to visit and go there again. Good luck to the new owner!
