Braised short rib eggs Benedict literally had no flavor. Scallops not fresh, tasteless and salty.
The staff depending who you looked at was either miserable looking or they seemed happy and smiling.
Now I know everyone has their days. But leave it in the back room, not on the floor.
Years ago I was there for a wedding and everything was delicious. Not sure what is going on there. Even the cocktail sauce for the shrimp cocktail was just tasteless. I’ve had better at the stop and shop seafood department and that’s not saying much. Yes the waffle was the winner in this meal.
To begin with, the food itself was outstanding. We ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer, the half Statler chicken entrée, and the shrimp and scallop pasta, and each dish was excellent. The flavors were well balanced, the portions were appropriate, and the execution was impressive across the board. From a culinary standpoint, this was easily a 10/10 experience.
That said, there are several areas where attention to detail could significantly elevate the overall dining experience.
The first impression upon entering the restaurant was unfortunately not a positive one. The entrance area, located near the restrooms, had a very strong odor reminiscent of a public restroom, with a noticeable smell of urine mixed with air freshener. There were also pieces of toilet paper visible on the floor. This initial experience was strong enough that we briefly considered leaving, which is unfortunate given the quality of the food that followed.
Additionally, the tables themselves appeared worn, scratched, and in need of updating. Something as simple as white linen tablecloths would immediately improve the presentation and elevate the atmosphere, bringing it more in line with the quality of the kitchen.
We also noticed that the blue water glasses at our table appeared sticky and not fully clean, which is a small detail but one that matters greatly in shaping a guest’s perception of cleanliness and care.
Service throughout the evening was quite slow, and we were initially given brunch menus. It took approximately 25 minutes before we received the correct dinner menus, which made the start of the meal feel disorganized.
In summary, the food at the tavern is truly excellent and deserving of recognition. With improvements to cleanliness, atmosphere, and service flow, this restaurant could easily evolve into a memorable dining destination rather than simply a place with great food. The foundation is clearly there , but a few adjustments would make all the difference.
On to the brunch – their French toast? Rocked my world! Whipped maple cream, butter, sugar, pecans and fruit made it a decadent tasty treat this morning. Washed it down with a seasonal Autumn Fizz cocktail which was nice & light with my heavier breakfast choice. Everyone at my table enjoyed their drinks and meal, absolutely no complaints. Service was on point and frequently checked in with us despite the Sunday brunch rush (we got in around 11:30am). My second visit and I’m sure we *will* be back again!
shrimp coconut ,pasta chicken, and scallops, and everything was excellent. The presentation and flavors were impressive, and the view made the experience even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience.
had the breaded Haddock and NY Sirloin steak , yummy. Will definitely be back to try some more of your delicious dishes. Forgot to mention, that the appetizer, coconut Shrimps was amazing.
Shrimp scallop pasta – creamy big portion.
Shrimps were huge. Comes with a poached egg but mine was overcooked; the yolk was not runny.
The carrot cake had too much frosting, making it too sweet. The birthday dessert is not comped.
