This Taco Stand is not of the same caliber as the one on Milledge, right off of Prince. While the place is comfortable, the men’s restroom is clean and the service is friendly, the food was mediocre at best, leaving much to be desired. This takes nothing from my conviction that I’d rather have a bad meal here than a good one at Taco Bell. I’ll simply have to drive across town next time I get the craving for a Mexican pizza. Tighten up, guys. You’re being outshined by your sister store.

I get that everyone has their own favorite Mexican restaurant and so do I, but Taco Stand is truly it’s own thing. There’s nothing exactly like it and maybe that’s why it’s been an Athens institution for over forty years. If you want a case study in how to run a restaurant, look at the east side Taco Stand. From my experience, the service is consistently friendly, the food is consistently tasty and the staff keeps it clean throughout the day. Nowhere is perfect, but you can tell when a restaurant is well run, because the staff members work really hard and genuinely seem to like each other. This is one of the best run Taco Stands I’ve seen during my decades as a customer and fanboy.

Customer service was horrible. The gentleman with the purple do rag on his head gave me a dirty look when I asked for Pork and cheese only soft taco. Young lady at register was not friendly or knowledgeable of what I was ordering. I received my soft taco with pork, cheese and green chilies!!! I want to taste pork NOT green chilies!!!

What I love about The Taco Stand is how consistent it has remained over many, many years. I never miss a visit when I come through Athens, and am never disappointed! Food and prices are fantastic.

My boyfriend and I saw the craziest and nastiest thing occur today on 3/3/2023 at the east side location. We came in for dinner and as we are waiting in line for food, the cook is as high as a kite on something intense and she pees herself as she is handling the food. And proceeds to contaminate food and give out orders. The manager offered refunds to anyone who complained but who on earth let this employee come in? This is a MAJOR health code violation and will likely be shut down soon due to this. J have never seen something so crazy. Fortunately we hadn’t ordered yet and we went to the one on the other side of town.

The Taco Stand is an absolute Athens classic. While there are certainly more authentic Mexican restaurants around, you’ll never find any place quite like Taco Stand. Every regular has their menu favorite. Mine is the jumbo, grilled, chicken quesadilla which comes with sour cream and salsa on the side.

I love the taco stand, but the cashier that’s a short blonde woman w/ tattoos is so incredibly rude that I am not going back whenever she is working. I went in this afternoon (11/3/22) and she kept interrupting me while I was trying to place my order, gave me an attitude, and overall just sucks. I get we all have bad days, but this woman has been a jerk the last few times I’ve been in there, so this isn’t just someone having a bad day. I’ve asked my friends that eat there if they’ve had any similar experiences with her- and a few actually mentioned how rude she was.
