Another 5 star meal from Sushi Maki. It has become a tradition of mine to eat at Sushi Maki whenever I am watching something at the Corn Exchange and seeing as I am usually in a hurry, I tend to call them in advance with my standard order (Miso Soup, spicy tuna Temaki and their fabulous sushi and sashimi set). They always deliver the best sushi and today was no exception. They still squeezed me in despite the 1430 time slot. As usual, I called them in advance and my food was served within a few seconds of my arrival as soon as the pantomime was over. Wonderful food, fab staff and the best location!

Really nice restaurant, always come here with my friends and we’re always happy. I personally go for the sushi platters ranging from £16-22, I’m a hungry guy and I’m always full after that. Generally affordable for a night out and great atmosphere.

As someone who’s lived in Japan, this was fairly mediocre. Not horrible, but very inauthentic. Their chicken “karaage” was equivalent to any chicken nugget you’d get from a fast food restaurant. Their spicy poke bowl was drenched with fake wasabi. The tempura wasn’t made fresh. You can tell it was frozen prior to. The fake sakura trees need to go. Most of the drink options had artificial sweeteners…very unhealthy chemicals.

By far one of the best places I’ve been to for Sushi. The food is second to none and I couldn’t seem to stop ordering more… I even treated myself to a delicious dessert!
The staff were attentive and recommended some lovely dishes for me to try. As a solo traveler with work, it can be lonely going from city to city… making the most of evenings alone… so the small talk was welcomed.
Thank you again, and if I’m ever back in the area I’ll be sure to visit!

We went for lunch, we were very keen to have some Sashimi so asked what was going to be served today in the ‘deluxe platter’ (chefs selection), we were told it would be the chefs selection ( ♀️) so I asked what does the chef say?! We were then told it was all of the fish, so we assumed that would mean all of the fishes noted in the sashimi section of the menu. All of the fish isn’t a selection. Also the sashimi special of the day was a marinated tuna so we kind of expected to have that served as the tuna part of the platter, alas this was not the case. Also there were two of us for lunch as we were sharing these platters so I would have expected there to have been equal amounts of sashimi cut, however two of them were 3 slices not 4. These sorts of things are little complaints but to be honest make a real difference to your dining experience.
We also had the hot platter. Both of the platters were delicious, the sashimi could have been less cold (for better flavour) but that’s just being picky. The hot platter was cooked well but part of it looked like It was frozen pre-made produce. Our main issue was the fact that the sashimi platter really wasn’t chefs selection, well if it was it was a lazy selection and nothing special.
We also got given the wrong bill at the end, nearly double what our bill should have been. I’d just say that even though the service was polite it was not what I would call good service. We don’t eat out often so when we do we want to know it’s really special, service is often our issue with so many places.

Full stars and hat off the chef. What an amazing place to be situated and the food well I can tell you if sushi is what you like then highly recommend sushi maki. The food is absolutely amazing. Also the staff were super friendly and I must say quick service too. Thanks sushi maki for a amazing time. We will be coming back soon

Absolutely fantastic Japanese food! The Sushi Maki in Newbury impressed me on every level—the sashimi was incredibly fresh, and every bite was a delight. The salmon ramen was exceptional, with a rich broth and generous, tender fish. Every dish was so tasty and satisfying—I can’t recommend this place highly enough and will definitely be back for more!

Fantastic sushi (tempura prawn & crab). So tasty. Lovely staff. Very friendly and attentive. Lovely decor too: amazing original paintings, cherry blossoms…all felt very authentic. Highly recommended!
