This was my experience last week and I walked out with a big smile on my face.
Have you ever gone out to eat and your just not wanting what’s on the menu? Have you ever gone to a steak house and after you sit down you realize that you don’t want steak? Did you snack on that entire bag of pretzels 2 hours before dinner and then realized that your full?
Well on a few occasions at Ocean Steak I’ve experienced the above mentioned scenarios and here’s how last week was handled.
The Head Chef here is a gentlemen named Mauricio. Now if you happen to be sitting at your table and you see a man running around the dining room in a dark grey Chefs jacket chances are you have just witnessed the wrath of Mauricio (In a good sense).
He will scan the dining room when he is not on the line working or expediting orders in order to check up on “things”. He will sit down with you for a few minutes and just catch up or actually take your order instead of the waiters. Well last week he walked up to our table and asked me why I was not eating. I simply explained that I was not really hungry and his Culinary Detective skills were immediately put into play.
Unfortunately for him I was in a breakfast mood and when I told him this he looked at me with a straight face and asked me if I wanted French Toast. What was I to say? When the Head Chef offers you breakfast on a Friday night at 8:00 PM you do not say no so I obliged.
Well when you think of French Toast you’re assuming white bread with some egg and cold syrup, right? Not this Chef. He sliced Brioche, soaked in an egg mix with all the important ingredients such as cinnamon, vanilla, and cream. On the side were fresh berries and yes warm Maple syrup. There was a filling that was added in between the slices of Brioche and this was the icing on the cake. I had the biggest smile on my face and everyone at the table ended up trying it and all agreed that it was the BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
So with that being said, Chef Mauricio THANK YOU!!!! for doing what you do. Now put that French Toast on the Sunday Brunch Menu or we are never coming back.
