The Starboard Restaurant is Dewey’s most famous venue for fun, great times, and tremendous service! It has been home-awayfrom-home for most Dewey Beach visitors over our 55+ year history. The Starboard truly holds a special place in more people’s hearts than anyone could ever imagine! The Starboard was originally built and opened by Duke Duggan around 1960 and has gone through several changes over its years. Purchased and run by the Hearn family during the late 80’s and early 90’s, Chip Hearn grew The Starboard into a nationally known hot spot. Purchased by current owners Steve ‘Monty’ Montgomery and his partners in 1999, The Starboard’s popularity is now off the charts as it has grown into a national phenomenon!
Long-standing bar & restaurant known for its Bloody Mary smorgasbord & piles of beach fries.

Reviews
5 hours before eating here, me and my family were looking for a bus stop and a lady there not only went out of her way to help us find the bus stop, but rejected the tip we wanted to give her, so in return, the least I could do was go here and write this review. So if you are reading this review, Thank you for everything.
Whether it’s enjoying a delicious breakfast with a drink from their epic Bloody Mary bar, day drinking and vibing to live music on their deck, or dancing the night away to some of the best DJs around, there’s always something going on.
They host some major events throughout the year, like Opening Weekend during St. Paddy’s Day, the Running of the Bull, and Dewey Goes Pink—something for everyone to enjoy.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention their amazing staff. Year after year, they hire the most hardworking and friendly team. The fun and energy you experience at The Starboard are all thanks to them.
As for the food, it’s top-notch. Whether you are looking for an omelette for breakfast or some chicken tenders to get you through the afternoon, everything on their menu is great!.
And if you’re wondering about the drinks? They absolutely make some of the best in town. No need to order a “double” of anything. Just make sure you take care of your bartenders and they will take care of you. Plus, if you want to dance your night away, this is the place to be. The bands and DJs that play here are the best! Highly recommend!
1. Service
2. Food
3. Atmosphere.
The first thing that may make or break your visit is the service. Are they appreciative of you patronizing their establishment and give you a warm greeting, or are they disinterested and could care less if you’re there or not.
We arrived only to be meet with indifference and a sour attitude. The hostess that seated us walked so fast to the table that we lost sight of her. Once we caught up, she set the menus on the table and hurriedly walked out without saying a thing. Let me backtrack and say that she was having a conversation with 2 other hostesses at the outside entrance to the restaurant and seemed upset that we were an inconvenience to her, interrupting her conversation with them.
Once inside we decided that the music was way too loud for 8 am and then decided to go back to this hostess stand and get a table outside. We were carrying the menus and silverware with us. Once outside this hostess was not happy with us coming back and proceeded to dig out another menu. My girlfriend said that we had menus and the hostess snipped back and said I know that. Really?? I will not stay at any restaurant that doesn’t appreciate my patronize and ridicules me. Management, you need to train your employees to do their job rather than stand around and talk among themselves. I have been here a couple of times in the past and have to say the food is good, but after this experience I won’t be back. And you know what? They couldn’t care less. We left and went to another restaurant that did appreciate us being there.
With the waiting time, we took a walk to the beach, and then sat at the bar to enjoy some crushes.
Food was very fresh and tasty. Prices were very reasonable.
The atmosphere was the best part. Loud classic music that everyone can enjoy and their was even a DJ at brunch.
Suggestions for Improvement:
• Parking – Help customers locate parking by putting a parking map on your website or Google profile. I called ahead and was told to park on a side street which are mostly Private Residential spaces.
• Staffing – More waiters/waitresses and less hostesses. 5 hostesses and 3 waitresses just didn’t make sense.
• Merch – Better merch and staffing, the T-shirts were lack luster and we ended up not buying anything because nobody was there to help us.
