Some years ago I have had complaints about timely service. Those days are behind for Spice Garden. I will be coming back.
The food itself was delicious. I over ate a bit. And will return for the Sunday buffet often, as well as for regular dinner.
Wonderful food and excellent customer service.
When we ordered appetizers, they never put them in and then tried to tell us we hadn’t ordered them. We also had to ask multiple times for them to even put our main entree food order in after waiting nearly an hour.
The food itself was sub-par and tasted stale, definitely not worth the wait. The atmosphere was just as bad — no music at all, completely silent except for forks and spoons scraping plates. The atmosphere in the restaurant was depressing.
Overall, horrible service, mediocre food, and an awkward, uncomfortable environment. If I could give it zero stars I would. Would not recommend.
It’s a little tucked off Albemarle in the strip of randomness — you could easily pass by and not even notice it — but don’t let that fool you. The food was SO good.
I ordered the aloo paratha (flat bread with potatoes between) paneer butter masala (firm diced pieces of cheese similar to tofu in a creamy tomato based butter sauce) with white rice on the side, samosas (fried chickpea & potato inside a large triangular patty, falooda with vanilla ice cream (I can’t really explain but it’s a creamy vanilla and rose flavor desert), halwa (warm carrot kind of custardy, cakey hybrid texture topped with a sprinkle of slivered nuts) and a masala soda (sprite with rich and sweet spices).
Everything came out hot and fresh, like it was made to order. Nothing tasted rushed or thrown together. Even the falooda (which was my absolute favorite) was layered beautifully and the ice cream didn’t look sloppy or melted down. I literally could not stop eating it. The masala soda was also really good and refreshing.
The paneer butter masala is basically like butter chicken sauce but with paneer instead — creamy, flavorful, and comforting. The samosas were exactly what I hoped they’d be — hot and fresh. I usually go for shrimp biryani at Indian spots, but since this one is vegetarian, I decided to try different things and I’m so glad I did.
Now, I will say the food took a little longer than expected. I ordered around 1:40, it was supposed to be ready by 2:08, and I ended up getting it closer to 2:25. But everything was clearly cooked fresh, and the staff was very nice and welcoming the entire time.
They were smiling, polite, and the place looked super clean. It even smelled clean. Floors were clean, tables were clean — overall very well kept. It seems like they may be newer, and possibly still working out timing, but the quality of the food made up for it.
The space itself is big and open. I do wish the atmosphere felt a little warmer and the seating a bit more cozy, but it’s very clean and inviting. I’d actually love to come back and dine in next time and just try a little bit of everything off the menu. I’ll just plan to give myself more time since the food seems to be made fresh.
Overall, I would definitely return — especially since it’s closer than other spots and not a chain. If you’re in the area, it’s worth stopping in.
