The place is located in the basement of the Omni Hotel. It has a cool, moody atmosphere that you look for with speakeasy-type bars. Service was good, didn’t try any of the food. Cocktails were tasty with some pretty unique drinks to choose from. Nothing crazy unique about the place compared to some other hidden speakeasys around, but definitely a fun spot to try out.

Had a horrible experience Friday night. Been here several times with different people. The bouncer who is African, had a problem with my African bestie last time(brought up politics with her, she was sober and trying to enjoy her time and he initiated it). So this time we showed up, he treated us horribly. Told us to wait which we understood and we were the only ones waiting. He then got in my face 5 min later saying “you guys needs to wait and back away from the rope” I heard him clearly the first time and didn’t start anything or even reply. And may I add I was 5ft away from the rope? I then told him to get out off my face. I’m a young woman there is no need for that. We left. I told his manager on the way out. I hope he is gone if I ever decide to go there again. Because I do enjoy their drinks and atmosphere. And I understand wanting to give people anticipation however we are in Pittsburgh not LA. And we are repeat paying customers, who spend a lot every time, bring new people, and always come dressed to the nines. Good bye. We will take our business elsewhere.

We stopped in today to celebrate my birthday. Although the bar was busy, the service was fantastic. Stacey answered all questions, was attentive, and made delicious drinks. Handling a busy bar while being understaffed is not easy, but this crew handled it effortlessly.

The Speakeasy inside the basement of the Omni Hotel is a cool, dark, hip bar not only reminiscent of the secret speakeasy’s during prohibition, it actually existed during prohibition! Check it out. The cocktails are unique and delicious and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. The Prickly Bootlegger was delicious and the Manhattan was spot on!

Nestled deep in the bowels of the Omni hotel this joint is worth seeking out. There will be a doorman at the entrance to greet and seat you. Give your eyes a minute to adjust to the darkness while you take in the scent and sounds of someplace special. We chose seats at the bar. Do not let the young age of the bartenders fool you, these are some extremely talented mixologists creating some exceptional cocktails. If you’re seeking an exclusive and swanky vibe, this is the place.

My night at the Omni William Penn speakeasy was an absolute nightmare. The service was beyond rude and staff acted as if helping guests was an inconvenience. The worst part? My coat was stolen right from the property, and the hotel showed zero concern or responsibility. There was no sense of urgency, no apology, and absolutely no accountability.
For a hotel that prides itself on its “historic charm,” I found nothing but a lack of respect and a shocking disregard for guest security. I no longer felt safe or valued, and the dismissive attitude of the staff made the entire experience even worse.
I expected so much more from the hotel’s speakeasy that holds such a reputation, but sadly, this was one of the most disappointing and frustrating experiences I’ve ever had. I would never recommend the Omni William Penn or the speakeasy to anyone looking for a professional, secure, or respectful place to stay.

The staff is absolutely horrid. We arrived. Told them our group size waited 30 minutes. As we were being IDd to enter they decided our group was too large and would not let us in… why not tell us that before making us wait?

My husband and I were enjoying a night away in Pitt. We stayed at Omni WP and decided to go to The Speakeasy. At the entry, a gentleman named Mark or Marcus was standing guard which I originally thought was just part of the charm of the idea of a Speakeasy. After an awkward conversation about wanting to make sure it was just a place for drinks (we didn’t want to take up a seat if it was more for food since we had just had dinner) and M attempting to direct us away to the other hotel bar, we did make it inside. The bartenders were working their tails off and really put the most craftsmanship into the drinks I’ve possibly ever seen. The distracting part of the evening was the doorman who kept coming in to verify with the bartenders he could send new patrons in despite the fact groups had just left, which would obviously show there’s capacity left inside. It was comical to us (a few drinks in and with it not affecting our lives) but I truly did feel for the bartenders. Knowing the tips are likely highly important to them, then having to distract themselves by verifying M didn’t have a line waiting while there were empty seats inside… I personally can’t give them enough credit for not losing their cool entirely.
So I would say, GO. Don’t be deterred if the doorman is a bit odd. It was a wonderful environment once inside, only comparable to other speakeasy’s I’ve been to in Denver and Chicago, but I would say even better than those.
