I have ordered vegetarian tacos and we got a very cheesy dip that I could not remember the name now. All were so delicious and portions are too big. Staff was so kind and helpful. Recommending everyone for those who is seeking for a good Mexican food.

+ Their non-spicy dip they brought is amazing!!

The food was awful! Besides being served late, it was not fully cooked and what was supposed to be mexican food tasted like spaghetti sauce, this includes chips and salsa, it was fully half spaghetti sauce and half salsa! Those two don’t mix right. My cheese enchilada had half and onion in it and barely any cheese, i get you want onion, but this was an onion enchilada with cheese. VERY disappointed. The staff was courteous enough but when asked what was taking our order so long to arrive, 40 or more minutes, she said some nonsense about covid! Not sure how that was supposed to make us feel any better about the situation or the relevance to the current situation. 100 percent do not recommend for their Mexican fare. My 8 year old loved her crispy burger?! It was burnt around the edges.

Unbelievable experience, I invited my closest 30 friends out for a night at The South based on how incredible it looked on their website. We ordered the Mega-Quesorito Supreme, all I can say is K-POW!!! One of the best nights of our life’s!!!!!

Food was ok but atmosphere was amazing. It was kinda odd to see both American food and Mexican food in the same place but I guess it works. Has multiple tvs and booths with an outdoor patio. Also has altitude+

Went here the other night with the fam, The food was what you’d expect. But what really stood out was our server Erik,
We have a fussy Todler and Erik was very patient with him even when he didn’t need to be. Thanks for making our experience awesome!

I had a wonderful second experience at The South Restaurant! What a vibe. The bar is filled with locals and regulars 24/7 who are always engaging with the bar staff and return time and time again for their hospitality, strong drinks, reasonably priced beers and exceptional comfort food.

Lainie was awesome. I manage fine dining restaurants and have a background in high-volume concepts for michelin restaurant groups. She knew the products, personalized the experience to me and my preferences, and was spot-on with checking in, despite a very crowded bar and a full restaurant when I arrived. I see why the locals returns time and time again for her attentive and down-to-earth hospitality.

The food was awesome. I never would have ordered a burrito with French fries, but alas this was Lainie’s favorite and it really worked! The texture was spot on, the fries weren’t over or undercooked, and actually added a lot to the “everything” burrito. I imagine this is actually not that easy to nail, especially at the volumes they are doing. I really enjoyed it.

Chips & Salsa: delicious! And a huge indicator of what the food is going to look like. Attention to detail and flavor, but approachable for everyone (the hot salsa wasn’t too hot, the mild was actually mild and had a lot of flavor). I eat a lot of salsa and finished two salsas… so if you’re like me (salsa lover), order a second one!

I’m a bit of a cocktail snob, and during my first visit (not with Lainie) was a bit sticker shocked on the price jump for a sweet and sour marg with Corazon. I had asked for Casamigos, but was given Corazon (they are the same price here). During my second visit with Lainie guiding the experience, I decided on a bartender poured rocks margarita (still with sweet and sour) but they were strong and $7. Their well tequila is 100% blue weber agave and not bad, so I wasn’t excited to upgrade again. I prefer fresh squeezed lime juice in my margs and I’m always willing to pay more for it with a mid/decent Blanco tequila. At this place they do what they do really well, it’s not a craft marg bar, so I had a better experience embracing it for what it is.

I wish there was at least one mezcal in their bar program. It’s my go-to. I get it may not be popular, but at least one bottle would be nice. Price isn’t of consequence, but it is a growing category and there are a lot of fun/creative things that can be made with the spirit.

Really great experience, genuine hospitality and fun sociable locals. Thanks Lainie, I’ll be back… New Local fan 🙂

Great Mexican food…
I’ve been coming to the South for 20+ years and the food is consistently good. The atmosphere inside has definitely improved over the years from a smoky bar to a comfortable Mexican restaurant.
The service could have been a little better when I was there but it was memorial day weekend and I believe they were shortstaffed. The food was good and we hope to be coming back for years to come.

Order the popular Quesorito with Barbacoa. They are all delicious, but something about how they cooked that Barbacoa makes it special. They cover it in cheese, and smother it for a juicy treat!
Price: 7
It is on the more expensive side for Mexican, but there is a la carte that is reasonable for budget eaters.
Atmosphere 5
It is grungy with bad lighting. It is reminiscent of a dive bar, with sports and many tvs. It is a cross of dive bar but with some solid Mexican-American food. Interesting atmosphere and concept.
Quality 8
This is above average Mexican-American food. Delicious Barbacoa, carnitas, and Carne Asada options. Their signature dish the Quesorito is large, delicious, and full of flavor.
Quantity 9
The South has large portions across the menu. Even drinks are bigger than standard. If you are hungry or thirsty, this is the place to do it
Service 9
The service was great, but nothing over the top. Attentive, friendly, and kind. Everything you would want from a server.

Good trashy Dive bar / restaurant that serves good, filling greasy Tex mex or some drunks idea of mexican food. Founder and former owner Jerry was a former Denver Bronco who opened the place in the mid Seventies. Great food
