Don’t get me wrong. The wings were amazing but they only had two Mexican food items on the menu. Everything else was American food items point blank. The place was clean. It did look like a fancy Mexican restaurant out of Mexico very nice but the menu only had two items that were Mexican food items.
The tacos were nasty the ground beef even taste like corn beef hash on seasoned didn’t even have a taco seasoning on the ground beef. The shell was stale and cold. Cost me $14 for two tacos with a side of small chips !
I was going to get the steak, but after I tasted the tacos, I said hell no. It did not have the taste of Mexican food at all.
My suggestion don’t eat here unless you want American food and even that wasn’t even that great.
The waitress was only one waiter for the entire restaurant. I waited about 25 minutes to get checked out and she had a nice smile, but it didn’t seem like she was enjoying her work. Neither did the host.
I feel bad for the others who were just walking into here with their family. I just don’t wanna be rude but at least I’m warning y’all now you want Mexican food to go somewhere else for it you want American unseasoned food then come here for it.

My wife and I stopped in for lunch and had a nice experience overall. The atmosphere was pleasant and the service was friendly and attentive.
We ordered the fajitas for 2 people half chicken / half steak and the flavor was average nothing great or the wow factor. Beans and rice ok at best.
The only downside for us was the portion size. The fajitas were a bit small, and the price felt a little on the expensive side for the amount of food served.
Overall it was still an enjoyable visit with good service and a nice atmosphere.

What a great experience we had today at the Sombrero Room Restaurant. Manager, Michelle made us feel so welcome when we called to say we were a party of 12 coming from Charleston, Fayetteville, Aiken, and JAX, FL to celebrate a birthday for a 3 year old. Their small event room held us just fine and we would have had room for more. Everyone ate well and the food was affordable. Our server, Gracie was so patient and professional! Thank you Team at Sombrero Room for making this such a special day!

Me, wife, and toddler were seated quickly. For drinks, I ordered the Blenheim Ginger Ale which tasted great and recommended. For food, I ordered the grilled chicken, sweet potato, and mixed veggies. The chicken and sweet potato were good but the mixed vegetables had an odd flavor. My wife ordered the 2 beef tacos and chips/salsa. Tacos tasted good but didn’t have much in the shells. The chips were good, salsa was ok and probably from a jar. My toddler got the hot dog, applesauce, and fries. The hotdog was precut which was nice and he was a big fan and wanted more. Fries were good and applesauce was standard. Service was decent but we weren’t offered straws and the server took an extra long time to come back and check on us. I had to actually get up and find extra napkins myself. Not terrible and she did really good otherwise.

We actually passed by this place on our way home from NC earlier this year and decided that when we came to drop my son off to college we would definitely stop and enjoy the experience! Glad we did! We had a great time and some fine food at the Sombrero Restaurant. Our server Gracie greeted us with a smile and was incredibly attentive. We will definitely make our way back!

Although many would say the food is average, my wife and I found the meal we had as wonderful. She had the BLT and requested extra crispy bacon. They didn’t miss on that. I had the Super Steak Burger with onion rings and really enjoyed it. Juicy and very flavorful. Our server, Brianna, was a true gem. She took care of everything and we shared how we happened upon South of the Border. We found our experience here to be truly a memorable and wonderful part of our journey.

Went here after getting the 20% coupon from staying at the inn. It was not worth it. Prices are still high, food is not good. I’d rather we drove a few miles and went to fast food. It’s a bummer because we enjoyed our weekend at South of the Border but this was the disappointment of the trip. We got tacos and a burger. The chips and salsa was just store bought. The only good part of the meal was the onion rings.
