Friendly service, the burger was ok just could have used some seasoning. I got a side salad instead of fries, needed to ask for a plate as it was a tiny bowl crammed tight with lettuce, no way to toss with dressing in the bowl. I didn’t care for the salad toppings, so separated them back in the bowl (super hard carrots yuck!). It was good to have the dark green leafy lettuce instead of the white iceberg lettuce cores other places try to pass off as salad, and the ranch dressing was good so I was content with the salad. It was a Monday at dinner time so everything else was closed in Davis except for the ice cream parlor, which I stopped at after dinner. The beer and ice water were both good.

Food was good although to look at it, we didn’t have high hopes. We started with the bruschetta that the menu promised fresh mozzarella and all it had was a sparse amount of grated Parmesan and little tiny cubes of not fresh mozzarella. The “toasted” Italian bread was more like a super crunch crouton wafer. Despite all that the taste of the overall dish wasn’t bad if your into tomatoes and balsamic. The side salad was an arugula mix with chunky veggies and filling. We split the pot roast and when it came out we were again hesitant due to the pot roast looking burnt, but again it surprised us and tasted good; especially the vegetables. Overall not a bad meal. Our waitress was pleasant and the prices aren’t too unreasonable for a resort town.

They shouldn’t call this place “The Smokehouse” I got the half rack of baby back ribs and they came cleanly off the bone but they definitely weren’t smoked – no smoke ring at all. It should be “The Bakehouse”. My wife got the deluxe pulled pork sandwich which had both pulled pork and brisket. Neither was smoked so what, exactly, are they smoking cause it ain’t food. The coleslaw and baked beans had no flavor. Luckily there was salt, pepper, sugar(should have asked for brown sugar but oh well), ketchup, and mustard so we were able to sort of make our own baked beans. Would have been good if we could have heated them up. Actually, about the best thing on the whole plate was the cold corn muffin. Wow, I can’t believe I just typed that. That’s just sad. Service was terrible- had to keep flagging the waiter down and he still forgot to bring our things we asked for like bbq sauce to help give the dry, tasteless pulled pork some flavor and moisture. I suppose they stay open because they have a captive clientele since there’s no other place to eat around and the location at the lodge is beautiful. To everyone out there coming to the lodge – do yourself have favor and pack some sandwiches. You’ll be way better off.

I ordered the deluxe pulled pork sandwich which was suppose to have 2 slices of brisket and 2 onion rings. The bbq pork was so dry that I had to ask for extra bbq sauce (which I had to ask for twice before I got it). There was one piece of brisket and 1 large piece of fat. The onion rings were very overcooked. The meal came with a cornbread muffin, bland cole slaw, baked beans that had no flavor at all. Thankfully there was sugar, mustard and ketchup on the table so I could make them myself. The service was nonexistent. We had to flag him down to get the bbq sauce, water and the check. My husband got the baby back ribs. There was absolutely no smoke flavor. For a restaurant named smokehouse, they obviously don’t smoke the meats which is very disappointing. Unfortunately this is the only place to eat when staying at the lodge. Had it not been a 30 minute drive down twisty roads we would have gone elsewhere. Overpriced for what we got.

We had the sampler platter, the pork belly burger, and a kids chicken tenders for dinner. The burger was perfect. The kids meal was a kids meal. Not much to report. Everything on the sampler was good especially the beans and pulled pork.

Great location at the top of the Mountain View. Food was fresh and tasty. We ordered cheese steak subs and Grilled chicken sandwich. All our foods was fresh. Little bit longer waited. But it is fine. After lunch we hike down the water fall near by. It was shot but some places are deep. Wearing the hiking boots are highly recommended.
