The Smithy Café at 9 Main is a very cute and nicely decorated deli in New Preston, with comfy leather chairs and a cozy seating area that really sells an upscale vibe. Unfortunately, the food and value didn’t live up to the atmosphere. I ordered the Southwest Classic Egg Sandwich ($14 for 2 organic fried eggs, bacon, jack cheese, avocado, chipotle aioli, salsa on a grilled kaiser roll) and a small Natalie’s organic orange juice for $7. With tax, the total came to $22.98 for a single breakfast sandwich and a small juice. The sandwich was just okay—messy and lacking much flavor beyond a bit of spicy heat—and definitely didn’t feel worth nearly $23.
Parking has always been an issue at this location: either the lot is oddly empty and you’re not sure they’re even busy, or it’s jammed with limited spaces. I’d also heard complaints that food quality had slipped and wait times had gotten long. When I went, there was nobody else inside and I was still quoted about 10 minutes for my sandwich; the receipt shows I ordered at 8:32 and was eating by 8:45. Not the 30–40 minutes others reported, but still not quick for an empty café. Overall, I wasn’t impressed. For the price point and their strict 30-minute parking limit, they really need faster service and more flavorful food to justify a return visit.

This is a very popular lunch place. We went for lunch around 12:30pm on a Saturday, so as expected, there was a wait to get food. There was also limited seating to dine in. We were told that it would be 30 minutes for our food to be ready, so we went across to the street to Smithy’s Market which was a wonderful way to pass the time. When our food was ready, we were able to find a small table. I ordered the Fig and Honey Melt, and it was absolutely delicious. I would definitely go back if I’m in the area and order that sandwich again. My friend got the Smithy Grilled Chicken and said it was great. Overall, it was a very lovely spot and the food was worth the wait. The employees were also quite nice and very helpful.

The place and area is cute. But they have horrible parking. As well as they take forever and are very slow. I ordered a breakfast sandwich at 10:10 am and they were out of the rolls. I got an English muffin instead and didnt get my food until 10:40. They also have no almond milk, or wiped cream. Although the food was good it was not worth a 30 min wait it was just a sandwich.

I was in the mood for a sandwich and google suggested this Cafe. I looked at the menu online and immediately decided to visit. I had the grilled chicken on ciabatta and my husband had a pork panini on sour dough. The sandwiches were perfect. Every ingredient was well thought out and the result was harmony in every bite. The cafe has a nice selection of pastries, cakes, cookies and local products. And the staff were warm and welcoming. I look forward to more visits and trying all the sandwiches

The Smithy Cafe is a charming in welcoming shop market & eatery located in New Preston connecticut. We opted for breakfast on this particular trip with the shaved steak burrito filled with eggs potatoes spinach aioli highlighting our breakfast choice. We also had a classic sandwich which was on a toasted English muffin. Both of the sandwiches were delicious and filling and we decided that we would definitely stop on our way out through the western part of Connecticut to grab a bite to eat at this cafe. Across the street is a market that was closed on this Sunday morning however we will be back to check it out. I highly recommend you stopped in.

Amazing breakfast burrito special. It had something deliciously crunchy inside, maybe tater tots? Anyway, it was the best. The breakfast egg muffin was also very good. The Golden Milk muffin left a lot to be desired. There’s some parking in front of the building. LOTS of outside seating area and beautiful views.

What a cozy little spot, with views! The bacon, egg and cheese is to die for. (don’t tell my doctor!) The food tastes like it came from a farm. Yum. Definitely more upscale, and pricier than a typical deli, but you get what you pay for. I’d like to quote Steve Merkel from Steve’s Deli and Catering in New Milford: Good food isn’t cheap. Cheap food isn’t good. Smithy’s only serves good food! I love it up there, and I think I’m going to head there today, amid the snow storm.

Great coffee shop. So pretty and cozy inside. (Fun fact – located by where they filmed Friday the 13th part 2 in 1981)

Such a cute cafe! The ambiance is fantastic. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Across from their market, which is also adorable. They were busy so no overly friendly or talkative , but fairly fast with food and drinks so I appreciate that.
I got their signature espresso drink- it was good. My daughter got their lemonade soda water drink- it was good as well but not full of a lot of taste (read sugary for tennagers)
She also got the Gf scone, which she liked but was a little on the hard side. They had a variety of GF options, which is great.
I got the crossiant which was delicious and the avocado toast. I liked the sprouts on the toast, but the toast itself was a little bland and very expensive for what it was.
I’m giving 5 stars bc of the atmosphere, the food allergy options (like Gf) , and I think if I tried something else, maybe I would like it more than the avo toast.

The location is perfectly situated in the heart of beautiful New Preston village, close to Lake Waramaug and fantastic hiking trails in the Litchfield Hills.
The food is always delicious! Truly yummy and selections for everyone.
All of those well-earned 5 star ✨ mentions don’t hold a candle to the very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff! Always an authentic and upbeat welcome from each person who works here! I have to say, this is the magic ✨ piece of this super yummy local eatery.
