To start, the vibes were just off.

Not a single employee that works here wants to be employed here. Their lack of enthusiasm shows in the service but also in their facial expressions. We watched several tables walk out while we waited for our server to come over.

The salmon nigiri looks like it was cut by someone who has never cut sushi before. We have been here in the past and this was disappointing. The roll looked great but unfortunately tasted like it had sat in a cooler for at least a day. I think giant eagle sushi tastes better tbh.

The best thing about this place was the cucumber wasabi cooler but I couldn’t even enjoy that after we got the roll bc my taste buds were so blown out by the spice level in the “siracha mayo” that was watery?

The roll was pretty.

Honestly prior to this experience I would have recommended this place as an experience to friends that are not super into sushi. However, this place will never get a recommendation from me or take up space in my brain again.

I didn’t know if I would like sushi rolls with steak and chicken but it ended up being 10/10! Suggest ordering a platter and splitting it between your party. They have some great cocktail options and a full bar too. Philly roll was my favorite.

If someone recommends this sushi restaurant to you in Pittsburgh, don’t trust their taste buds.

The mermaid wasn’t the only slippery thing about our experience at this establishment last night. My boyfriend and I decided to give this casual spot a try after hearing positive reviews — a decision we quickly regretted.

We were seated promptly, but it took nearly 10 minutes before anyone took our drink order. From there, things only got worse. Our food — just two rolls and the chef’s sashimi — took 40 minutes to arrive. When it finally did, the sashimi was inedible. The tuna tasted overwhelmingly fishy, the salmon was poorly cut, and the yellowtail looked questionable — almost spoiled. Despite the untouched sashimi plate sitting in front of us, our server never checked in to ask how things were. We only saw him again when we flagged him down for the check.

The Beetlejuice roll we ordered was missing the wasabi tobiko listed on the menu, and one piece contained a mystery chunk that turned out to be a piece of lemon — rind and all.

What was supposed to be a quick, easy dinner turned into an hour-and-a-half ordeal. Between the slow service, the missing ingredients, and the quality of the fish, I can confidently say this was one of the worst sushi experiences I’ve had in the Pittsburgh area.

Both the food and the service were unacceptable. Management seriously needs to reevaluate how this place is being run.

Wife brought me home a tuna roll after a night out with her friends. Tuna tastes extremely fishy and had to spit the roll out. Definitely not fresh at all. Massive hair in the container as well. It’s a shame because before covid hit, this place was the best sushi place in all of Pittsburgh… I just don’t know what happened. This isn’t the first disappointing experience we’ve had the last few years.

UPDATE 11/2024: they’ve recently renovated the bathrooms and the seating area. It is more inviting and a better atmosphere!

hands down our favorite sushi in the area! take out service can be a bit slow, but worth it for the creative, loaded rolls they have. chicken and steak rolls are good for the raw/fish-averse

I wouldn’t call this “authentic sushi” but nevertheless pretty good. I love their large portions of miso soup and restaurant aesthetic. I would have wished they had more plain sushi options like a salmon roll. It also would have been nice to include that the salmon sashimi bowl came with purple cabbage, which the person with me who ordered it thought did not pair well with the rice and salmon. I did appreciate the great service. Our waiter was this friendly girl with pretty curly hair. Please tip her well!

First time here! Server was attentive and pleasant.
Miso soup was some of the best I have ever eaten.
Definitely will be back to try other menu items.

Party of 4 Still waiting on food. When we came in, the hostess ignored us and the people who had came in before us. None of us (strangers included)even figured out that she was the hostess until someone else went up to her. We all thought she was a customer. So while the restaurant was half empty when we came in it still took 15 minutes to be seated because she would not tell us she was the hostess or get up from her chair. Just stared hard at her phone. We get seated and others tickle in as we wait and wait. 3 other tables who came in after us are met and given drinks before we are addressed. Now 4 tables who came in after us have been served. One of which is now leaving. Another table that came in a good 30 minutes after us is eating their food. No food for us yet. We have made a terrible mistake coming here. And will not make it again. Absolute mess. It’s been over an OVER AN HOUR. Make that three tables that came in after us are leaving. No food in sight. Finally came. At MINIMUM hour and 15 minutes after we entered the half empty (when we got here) restaurant. Maybe have been longer. When I told the server how long we have been here she said sorry we are very busy. Darling, not when we got here!!! My son who is 10 was frustrated to tears by the time it finally came. We also missed the fireworks, and could only hear them. Yesterday 6 tables that got here after us were already gone. There is absolutely no excuse. The food was fine, but I will never run the risk of doing this again.

We had heard great things about this place. The food is up to quality on the reviews we heard but the service was terrible. The food was good. I was a good portion size. The downfall with this review as to why it’s not higher is the service.
We arrived at 5:35 on a Saturday, and only about 7 tables (most of those had their food) were full at that time. It took about 10 mins before the host realized we were waiting as they were standing at the bar talking. Not getting drinks or giving food orders, but just everyday chit chat. We were finally sat and it took the bartender about 10mins to come over and take our orders and our food order as she stated she would be our server. After taking our drink order it was another 10mins before we got our drinks. We had ordered an appetizer when we placed our drink order. It was 6:30 when we finally got our appetizer. That was after we told our server we never got it. It came out within 2 mins of telling her and it wasn’t as warm as it should have been. When the bartender took our food order the host came to her with an appetizer we ordered and they didn’t know whose table it went too. The bartender didn’t know either and they then asked another table and took it to the back. When we got our appetizer, we feel it was the one they set back there. We did not get any extra plates or silverware or napkins when the appetizer was brought out to us.
It was 6:50 by the time we got our food. Again, the restaurant was not busy when we got here. Which is over an hour of waiting. We also got a plastic fork for my mother in laws bowl she ordered.
We heard the bartender say 4 chefs in the back, but when it wasn’t busy; that shouldn’t be a problem.
The atmosphere was clean and nice; but I wouldn’t bring my young kid due to the explicit music that was playing.
We liked the food and the bartender serving us was nice, but not worth the wait of time.

Edited for response to feedback:
I wanted to clarify that we did not have a young child with us so it wasn’t a mistake by your hostess. We felt for your bartender who was running around doing so much, and we did not know about the under staffing until we got our check. When I stated there was 7 tables full at the time we got there, it was from both sides. 5 in the dining and 2 in the bar. As the night progressed; yes it did get full.
Just wanted to clarify.

Having eaten sushi all over Japan and around the world, this restaurant goes in the bottom 3 on my list. Particularly considering the price ($10.50 for 2 pcs. salmon nigiri), it is highly questionable to see this many red flags. The salmon is not sushi grade and it looked like it had been cut with a bread knife. The rice (i.e. the main component of sushi) was like overdone porridge, and it was cold. The flavors were unbalanced and the mouth feel was unpleasant due to all the starch from the squished up rice grains. No better than supermarket sushi packaged in the morning and picked up in the afternoon. Extremely poor quality food by all relevant metrics for sushi.
