This place could be so frickin’ cool, but management completely misses the mark. On a Friday night, the dining room lights were shut off at 6pm, which is honestly baffling.
We’ve stopped here several times and have been disappointed every single time. The place is dirty, cluttered, and way overpriced for the experience. Basic maintenance is clearly being ignored—toilet paper holders falling off the wall and heater covers literally laying on the floor.
Instead of focusing on creating a welcoming, well-kept atmosphere, management seems focused elsewhere, and it shows. This could be a great stop, but right now it feels unwelcoming and poorly managed.

Very very nice bar. I drove 3 hours to go here, and could ask for a better place. Just loved it. Food was amazing.

Excellent selection of good food. We particularly liked the fish fry. Perfectly done and you have an option for baked fish as well. Poutine, twice baked potatoes – this gal likes her taters. Good coleslaw with fish fry. Nice atmosphere. We enjoyed the talking with the owner so welcomed us immediately. We also ordered take-out for a family member who is housebound – she loved her meal. We’ll be back.

Great place to stop. Great food, service, and drinks. Watch out for the low celing beams if you’re tall!

A quaint fun place to be. Great homemade food. Fish fry is excellent as well as the hand breaded mushrooms and onion rings. You can’t beat the ribs when they are on the menu. The bartender makes wonderful drinks. Just a great place to stop in when you’re in the north woods.

Whether I’m snowmobiling in the winter or fishing in the summer, I make a point to always eat here. Always super friendly staff. If ribs are on the menu they’re amazing. Outstanding fish fry, haddock not offered at most places. The poutine is epic & can feed an army, then some. Very cool rustic atmosphere. A Northwoods staple.

EDIT!!!
THEY HAD A PHONE SYSTEM ISSUE AND COULDNT REVERSE THE CHARGE… ADAM IMMEDIATELY REACHED OUT TO ME VIA FACEBOOK–WHICH UNFORTUNATELY I NEVER CHECK…. LONG STORY SHORT THEY DID ME RIGHT.
Theives… they stole $140 from me and won’t return my call. On June 28, my family and I went there for a quick drink and some food. I paid with my debit card. He charged me the total bill and then the total bill plus tip. I’ve contacted the business everyday since and no response. Phone and Facebook. I’ve contacted the sheriff’s dept in iron county.
PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS ESTABLISHMENT.

I’ve never left a bad review before, but this place needs to know that improvement is needed.

Wasn’t busy but it still took over half an hour to get our first drink. Food took THREE HOURS, and our glasses sat empty for half that time because the server rarely came around. No one was playing the juke box so we sat there in silence the whole time. If we had known the area better we would have gone to Birches near by. Would NOT recommend.

Recommendations to management: First, on a Friday night in August having one guy as the bartender and server is insufficient. (Same with having a single cook) Second, you need to invest in a POS system. It took the server a very long time to settle up bills with a pen and paper.

Went with my son at 8pm on a Friday for a classic Northwood’s fish fry. There were a few occupied tables, but it wasn’t very busy. We ordered dinner (2 fish drys with baked potatoes) and an appetizer. It was deadly silent in the dining room, and after placing our order, I heard the waiter apologizing to the table next to us (about what, I didn’t know, but not a good sign).

Within minutes, our drinks were empty with the server nowhere in sight. After an HOUR, our appetizer (Poutine: just french fries and cheese curds) arrived, but we received no drink refills, plates, or silverware. After a few minutes, my son found silverware on his own. The appetizer was underwhelming but we were very hungry by that point. Now the waiter came back to the table to inform us they were out of baked potatoes. Ok, what else can I have??? The only other choice was french fries (MORE FRENCH FRIES).

It was another half an hour for just one plate of fish to come out (the server set it down in front of my son and casually walked away). The owner or manager came out to apologize to the table next to us, I asked him where my food was… He didn’t know.

Ten minutes later, my son was done eating and I just wanted out of there. Can I cancel my order please? No, it’s ready now (which it wasn’t). Frustrated, I asked for it to just be put in a to-go box. Several more minutes later, I finally got my box and as I am about to leave, notice I didn’t get any tartar sauce. Can I please have some tartar sauce? Nope! We ran out, I am told. Ridiculous. I have never had such a poor dining experience in all my life.

I live nearby and will not be back. Save yourself the trouble and go to the Birches on Boot Lake or North of the Border (both excellent, fast, with friendly service just 2 miles from the Frontier)
