We had such a lovely experience at this seafood place. The food was genuinely really good and you can tell they care about quality. The service was friendly and attentive without being over the top, which made us feel very comfortable.

First of all, we absolutely loved that they provided a dog bowl. Such a small detail but it honestly makes a big difference and shows they’re thoughtful and welcoming.

They had a great range of seafood options on the menu and everything we saw coming out looked amazing. I decided to go for a classic fish and chips because you can usually tell how good a place is by how they handle the basics. It did not disappoint. The fish tasted fresh, the batter was crispy without being greasy, and it was proper comfort food done right.

They also had a good selection of wines and other drinks, but we kept it simple and went for a pint, which was perfect with the meal.

The restaurant itself feels like a traditional pub with some historical touches, which gives it a lot of character. It’s cosy and relaxed, somewhere you can sit back and enjoy your food without feeling rushed.

It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in Leith, especially if you’re heading to or coming back from the Royal Yacht Britannia. A great spot to stop for a proper meal.

Excellent food, lovely dog friendly restaurant, good service.
The Cullen skink was very rich in contents, loved the salmon in filo, and the seafood risotto was decent too. I guess the only change I would make is add a second ball of ice-cream for the right apple crumble to ice cream ratio 😉

One the best seafood restaurants I’ve tried in the uk. The seafood platter was unbelievably fresh, I didn’t like a small amount of the fish served but that’s just personal preference as they tasted alright. The sea bass with yellow pepper sauce is a really nice light dinner option, not very filling but very full on flavor. Tried the haddock risotto as well and it’s so packed with flavor and creamy. Drinks were really good as well and our server was lovely. If you’re in Edinburgh and want a good seafood place by the shore, this place is a must try.

Would have been five stars BUT, service was extremely mediocre. For example the server served and was never seen at our table again to see how things were or… We had to call someone over for everything after the service of the plates. That said, the atmosphere was terrific! The scallops I had were fresh and my husband’s fish was breaded beautifully. The tartare sauce is house made and the best I’ve ever had.Note: Next day, I got very sick (gastrointestinal).

Everything was good except bouillabaisse soup! Frozen sea food unfortunately! The fish and chips just ok and the chowder was just fine! I Should not go again! Service and atmosphere was ok!

Good atmosphere, with mostly locals dining in a slightly formal setting. Decent service.
The food, however, was not particularly impressive – especially the seafood platter. We had fairly high expectations, but it tasted largely like a mix of mid-range, pre-packaged seafood you could buy from a supermarket. The bread was not warm or fresh.

We ate at the Ship on the Shore last night and it was so enjoyable! We had a great time. The restaurant was packed with an atmosphere full of chatter and fun. The service was excellent and the staff were lovely. The food was amazing!! The menu was great – full.of fresh seafood and seafood platters. We didn’t have a platter but they look phenomenal. I had one of the best smoked haddock risottos I’ve ever had. They also have a really good, varied wine list set out by country and one of the most varied champagne menus I’ve seen. It was great value for money – we spent £80-£90 each including a tip but we had three courses and a bottle of wine and coffee. The portions were great too! I have nothing bad to say – can’t wait to go back!

Had the Seafood Paella ‘Royale’ with Chorizo. Freshly cooked, tasty and even though hadn’t eaten all day in anticipation, couldn’t finish it! Friendly staff and lovely atmosphere.

Nice staff.
Food is ok (I’m picky tho). Nothing wrong but also not good enough that I want to recommend to people… we had a light lunch here.
The women’s bathroom appears to have a strong smell, so don’t seat close to it (it’s in the back).
