What a hidden gem! The menu is wildly creative, and everything we ordered exceeded our expectations. Don’t miss the Lobster Bun if it’s on the menu – it’s ethereal!

I liked this place. It’s a little difficult to find – keep your eyes open. It is in a converted carriage house with river seating. The owners are great and put a lot of love into the space. We ordered the olive appetizer. Unique and tasty.

Amazing atmosphere. Off the beaten path. We were here between 6pm & 8pm on a Friday and there were very few people there. The bar inside is very quant and the outdoor area is very aesthetically pleasing.

Nice hidden away location in downtown Westerly along the Pawcutuck River. Although we only ordered drinks and apps, service was great, drinks were very good. The cheese platter was delicious and the peel and eat shrimp had a wonderful spicy rub on them. Nice atmosphere and look forward to trying this restaurant out for dinner.

Accidentally found the shallows after an incredible day at the beach. This husband and wife team really did everything right. The service is incredible and the food will blow your mind. Not to mention their drink menu is fantastic and very creative. One thing to note since everything is local the menu changes fast. So go ahead and order that extra dish because you’ll absolutely love it…
We can’t wait to go back next time we’re in town.

Incredible outdoor seating area that is soured by incredibly steep prices. Beer selection was small but the choices were excellent. $12 for a “foccacia”, which just wound up being four small slices of bread with a compound butter on the side. Overall a mixed bag. I’d definitely go here on a sunny day for a beer or two, but then hop over to a different bar with more reasonable prices.

I had no expectations for the place but due to its environment when we walked in and the insanely high prices for a very simple basic cheese burger ($16 with no sides), I ended up having high expectations with an open mind. The burger was well done, not even close to rare like we asked. Fries were actually really good but for the prices, should be included with the burger. Server was very nice but the drink we ordered was pretty much just a ton of sour mix for $11. Usually I am not so critical but I honestly think the quality of food and service do not match the location, the atmosphere or the expectations they put out. On social media they seem to portray themselves as a really nice restaurant but in reality its just an expensive bar with a tiny expensive menu in a really nice atmosphere. I truly believe The Shallows really needs a complete change of identity in order to succeed exponentially. Most likely will not be going back, Koi, Brazen Hen, Malted Barley, etc. all have much better food, happier employees, and even decent atmosphere.

Super cute place with great ambience. We had the cantaloupe margarita and a beer at the bar overlooking the river. So peaceful and beautiful. Very quiet on a Sunday evening. The cocktail was delicious and balanced, not too sweet. Would definitely come back here.

There are three things we really enjoyed about our experience here. First, and this caught us off-guard, is that the intention is for the plates to be shared. We didn’t know that walking in. The plates are more generous than at a typical tapas restaurant, which is perfect, because you really want to try as many things as possible from the menu.
Second, everything was “farm-to-table” and there was lots of fresh veg. It was wonderful to have fresh veg be a prominent part of each dish.
Third, the food was delicious. Once you order, the chef curates the order of the dishes to give the best flavor sensation.
If you are tired of the same old, same old, try The Shallows for a delightful change of pace.
