The menu for the Wednesday special was straightforward yet enticing, offering about five entrée options along with a selection of side dishes. The pricing was incredibly reasonable, with the special priced at just $12.99, including one meat and three side items. I opted for the fried fish, accompanied by greens, coleslaw, and peach cobbler. The meal was delicious overall, although the greens were a bit sweeter than I preferred, I still managed to finish them. My granddaughter, a self-proclaimed macaroni and cheese enthusiast, chose the child’s plate, which featured fried fish, macaroni and cheese, and french fries.
Before our main courses arrived, we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary bucket of mini ball hush puppies served with honey butter. These hush puppies were exceptional, offering a unique twist on the traditional cornmeal variety. They appeared to be flour-fried, providing a delightful texture and flavor. My granddaughter enjoyed hers with a touch of ketchup, while I found the honey butter to be the perfect complement, enhancing the taste of the fried hush puppies.
The only minor letdown was my mimosa. While the restaurant’s hospitality and food were outstanding, the alcohol content in the mimosa was a bit too strong for my liking, and I was unable to finish it. Despite this small hiccup, the overall experience was wonderful, and we left the shack with full bellies and happy hearts, cherishing the delightful meal we had shared.
I arrived early to Myrtle Beach on Wednesday, 1/28/2026. I was hungry for new opportunities and adventures. I googled “public boat launch near me”. This led me to Captain Childers’ advertisement sign. I called and he picked up immediately. I said “can we go fishing today?” and Cody said “absolutely buddy, give me until 8:30am”. I met him at the ramp and we hit it off immediately. He told me “The Shack” was the best spot around for good, home-style, southern-cooking.
I said “sign me up”. I got the lunch special of fried flounder, fried shrimp, beer-battered french fries, and Cole Slaw. Huge sweet tea to wash it all down.
It was quite simply the best fried seafood I have ever had. I don’t really have much more to say about that.
Cody and his family, their staff, and all employees of The Shack run a stand-up establishment. The food, service, and un-matched “southern hospitality” come few and far between.
I look forward to more fishing trips and good eats with Cody and family at The Shack.
