The Sedgley Place offers a complete five course dinner including our cheese spread as a starter, warm bread with honey butter, choice of appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts. Our menu changes weekly offering seven different entrees including a vegetarian choice. In addition to the delicious food and impeccable service, the charm and atmosphere of this old Maine home is like no other. Surrounded by lush rolling meadows and fruit trees, the restaurant is housed in a Stately Federal Home that was built in 1786. The restaurant itself was established in 1978. Over the years the restaurant has grown, utilizing all parts of the house. Today there are six dining rooms throughout the first and second floor of the building.

Easily one of my favorite restaurants in all of Maine, this place is exceptional. Massive portions, huge selection of plates, and friendly staff. I cannot recommend This place any higher. 1000/10. I come every time I can.
Courtney was an amazing server too!

Our experience at The Sedgley Place for our intimate wedding ceremony and dinner was amazing! Ali and team were incredibly helpful with planning, set up, last minute change of outdoor chair arrangements, AND last but not least, the service of drinks and food!
The food was delicious, the mixed drinks were awesome (especially the espresso martini!) and the staff was extraordinary. I would not hesitate to book this venue for a private dinner, wedding, anniversary or other celebration.

The food has to almost exceed the venue experience at their prices. Our starter cheese and crackers was likely scooped out of a tub of cheese served w ritz crackers. App choices we had were fair. Found the frozen meatballs that were wamred w way too much tomatosauce odd. But the mushroom cap and caprese was ok.. Ceaser salad needs a homemade dressing to add at least a little flavor. Main, I had assorted seafood in a tasteless cream sauce. The two overcooked, tough lobster claw meat w a little white fish lacked flavor. Two of us had the fish dish which is oddly served w the only sides they offer for every dish. The potatoes were either instant or so over whipped it was just a cold pile of tasteless food. Our 4 sprigs of asparagus had to have been cooked hours ago. So dry. Desserts were good for our party. Up the food quality and they will have a wonderful place to dine out at

A delightful treat for a special occasion! Four of us made reservations for the middle seating at The Sedgely Place. We were very pleased.

We were on time and were seated promptly. The waitstaff was very helpful as two of us had not been there before. Once settled with a drink, we were given just enough time to explore the menu and make our choices. With our orders in, the well-paced dining began. The experience was never rushed and always attentive. Salads appeared along with bread, olives, and olive oil. Our friends ordered steaks which were done to perfection. All the food was prepared perfectly and served in a timely manner. One of our party is gluten and dairy free and her needs were addressed immediately as we ordered our meals. Her dessert option was a vegan ice cream. I was rather jealous of that option and would hope that option might be available to everyone in the future.

Our friends suggested this place. The reviews suggested this place. We do NOT. We will be choosing new restaurants that pride themselves on hard work, revision, and dedication to quality ingredients. This place is not that. To charge such high prices for such low quality is shameful. People work hard for less these days. Don’t take advantage. Sedgely Place is a dissapointment.

My fiance and I went to Sedgely Place for Valentines Day. The reservation only dining should have provided a controlled, informed volume of service. When we arrived, there were about five other couples walking in at the same time.

We were all ushered into a bright room in back. It was cute, but cramped. I wonder why the more spacious and softer lit dining room wasnt used, considering this place is supposed to be a fine dining experience…and Valentines Day.

The waitress was friendly, as were the young ladies helping, but they tried serving us others food twice, and showed little knowledge of how service works as we saw many mistakes and apologies. If you charge high prices, I expect high quality service and food. It’s not rocket science.

We started off with crackers and cheese, which was tasty but confusing. Is this fine dining or not? The Margarita was good. Nothing more, nothing less. The salads took a while to arrive. Nothing special, nothing rotted. The Caesar salad might have been tossed in dressing, but it was dry when it arrived and the tiny, rock hard croutons were indicative of the kind you buy from Shaws. It could very well have been salad from a bag. We were laughing the experience off. Hoping the entrees were amazing and that the experience so far was simply the charm of an old classic restaurant in a small town.
The entrees arrived right after we got the salad. Poor timing but I wasnt there for salad. I got the Mariners Boat for $88 and my fiance got the short rib for $82. The seafood was horrible. The dish came with something akin to warm milk which the seafood was set in. Overcooked, bland, and rubbery, but it almost tasted of cardboard. The flavor you got back in the day when you eat freezer burnt frozen dinner. 90s kid here. I liked his short rib dish in comparison, but let me be clear, the seafood dish was awful, I would have been happy with cereal. How does the chef allow that to leave the kitchen? They aren’t tasting their food, because if they had, they wouldnt have allowed it to be served. The lady next to me ordered the same thing. She feigned she couldn’t eat another bite. She only took two and was very quiet afterward. I watched because we were so close and I wondered how this place could have such good reviews and fail so bad this night. We were asking ourselves if the mashed potatoes were instant or not. That’s the quality I’m getting at here.

We realized most of the other couples were asking for boxes, which we did for the short ribs. I mention this because it was as if all of us were trying to leave early. The waitress asked us if we wanted our dessert to go (also the same as the others), which we agreed to. It took a while to get our check, I was talking my fiance down from storming out as the meal was so bad, when I took a peak at the dessert and realized both were incorrect. We let the server know but insisted we didnt want a replacement, more of an acknowledgement that this was not a successful evening on their part. She came back with two more desserts anyway. I can see why she thought it would make things better, but the whole experience was just confusing, disappointing, and embarrassing.

We have a funny story to tell from this experience. Something we can remember for years to come with friends and family alike.

We had a group of 9 celebrating a 96th birthday and had the best experience! The food was great, the people were so nice, but our waitress, Courtney, really made this experience incredible. She was not only super friendly, but she had a great sense of humor, knew the menu well, and truly listened to our needs. For a large group that is a lot to ask for. She was the best waitress I’ve ever had… the Sedgley Place is so lucky to have her! ❤️

First and last visit.
My partner and I made a reservation here for our anniversary. Neither of us had been before.
I agree with many of the review below:
The cheese tasted like it was scooped from a container and served off brand crackers. Served to us by someone who hadn’t even had time to take her sunglasses off – not quite the fine dining experience I was expecting.
The bread was actually quite good but the butter being served in a disposable deli cup really took away from the ambiance.
We got the stuffed mushroom and caprese for apps. The mushroom was the best item of the night.
Salad was nothing to write home about – even the croutons on the ceaser tasted like they were from a bag.
Main course was the filet mignon and delicate squash. It was a surprise to us when the dishes came out that they came with potatoes and asparagus because our waitress talked as little as she could, despite us letting her know it was our first time. The potatoes, likely instant, were served cold. The squash and rice melody was so over seasoned with cumin and allspice that it was inedible.
Dessert was the lemon cake, while I suspect could have been made in house, was also served chilled so the crumb and taste was just a little off.
Unfortunately, the service did not make up for the lack of quality in the food. Our waitress seemed like she wanted to be anywhere but there. I will not be going back and I recommend you spend your money elsewhere. This place has neither good food nor good service.

The days of fine dining, and good food are over at The Sedgley Place.

The new owners have managed to squeeze every ounce of quality out of the once perfectly curated menu and well trained waitstaff.

I can understand hard times are upon us, but nearly doubling all food prices and cutting quality at the same time was a bold move.

My fiance and I were greeted by not a soul as we entered the restaurant. No coats checked, no warm welcomes, instead the owner turned around after 5 minutes and said “CAN I HELP YOU?” yes ma’am, I’d like to spend 104 dollars on a barbecue sauce fillet.

The bread once fresh baked daily, was served stale and cold.
Cheese spread and artisan crackers replaced with club crackers from walmart.
Warm Meatballs served in a cold sauce.
And a fillet… Served SMOTHERED in what was described to us after the fact as a “fig barbecue sauce”. The menu had no mention of the sauce, and the server hadn’t warned us either. That fillet was butchered a second time that evening.

Thank you to Sedgley for the incredible memories you have gifted myself and my fiance over our many years, but I doubt we will return after last night.

It is my absolute displeasure to add this review to the cacophony of 1 star reviews left since the new ownership. Good luck.

After years of experiencing a great dining experience, my husband and I chose this to be the place for this year’s Thanksgiving dinner. We were highly disappointed! From the outside where we found the white railing up to the house in need of repair. There was a large area that needed to be repaired. Splinters are bound to be had. The prior sesaon’s floral decorations had died and left us wondering: what is going on here? Then to dinner: The plating of our main meal looked like someone just threw the turkey(in large chunks) onto the plate. What happened to carving? The green beans weren’t prepared properly as the ends were never trimmed. Sloppy work
And for dessert, we wanted a hot fudge sundae. Note the word Hot. The fudge was cold as the ice cream. Sincerely dissappointed and will not continue going there for our Thanksgiving tradition..
