What a find! The Sandbar Floating Restaurant was the highlight of our trip. You actually walk a little gangway over the river to get on the boat it’s such a cool way to start. The food was spot on; I’m still thinking about the fried chicken burger!
But the real star is the vibe. Sitting over the water at sunset, with great live music and a super friendly crowd, it just clicked. Perfectly relaxed, exactly what we wanted. Can’t recommend it enough.
we’ll definitely be back!

I’ve been here a lot this festive season and have enjoyed every time. Particularly, I had a Christmas work party at Sandbar. It was phenomenal. Everyone loved it.
The food came out fast, was great and affordable.
Their new sushi bar is also fantastic. Would highly highly recommend this place!

Based on the river, the setting was nice. The boat itself was a bit older, take mozzy spray, expect good food and we saw some people going on a river cruise from the boat, so things must be a thing.

All I can say about this place is that it is worthy of 5 stars.
My friend and I kayaked to the restaurant up the Boesmans rivier (but there is access by land) and despite our general shabbiness (being a little wet from the water and barefoot) their hospitality was incredible. Someone swiftly showed us to a place to sit under the shade net to block out the sun, but out in the open so that we could still have that air of freedom. The music was lively but relaxed, and the singer worthy of albums. The restaurant had a very casual air about it, which was reflected by the laughter and mirth of the people sitting around us. Families with children could be seen sharing a lovely meal, children were fishing off the side of the restaurant, under close supervision of their folks. There were old couples who seemed unperturbed to the joy around them, and then there were folk like my friend and I, young adults who are looking for a quality establishment to share a meal.
And that brings me to the food, our waiter knew their menu back to front, and happily showed us items that they would recommend (not jumping automatically to the most expensive foods) and happily showing us what we want. My friend and I only stayed for a plate of chips and a drink each, but the chips alone were to die for, and despite the smaller order, the staff were beyond helpful, pleasant, and down-to-earth.
We climbed back into our kayak from the restaurant in high spirits, and I would happily recommend everyone visit The Sandbar. I cannot wait to return there again.

We didn’t eat but dropped in for the view/experience. Very quiet at 3 pm on a Wednesday. The staff were friendly and beers/raddlers were cold. I heard their calamari was very good. Nice view up and down the river.

Magical setting on the Kenton estuary, awesome sunset views, and wholesome boat-style fish, calamari, prawns and chilli poppers. Thoroughly enjoyable outing, restaurant staff were great, they moved us from inside to outside once tables became available, kids were fishing, and this was just an idyllic family supper.

Being from out of town we were made feel so welcome. Management served fish and boerewors to taste. They catered for the rugby lovers 10/10: big screen and speakers. The view is absolutely breathtaking. Our favourite spot in Bushman’s!

Going to the Sand Bar is an experience, from parking pretty much on the river bank and walking a hang bridge look alike, a little bush scene, and then over the gangway to enter a friendly and inviting area of benches, and the most amazing view. The view is the only one in the Kenton area that you will find. There is no other restaurant that is on the river in the area. So the feeling of being on a moored boat is one of a kind. So before even eating the delicious food, this already had my 5 star vote. Evening sunsets in summer a must. The iconic heron, which is in the Sand Bar’s signage, is alive and lurking just on the deck edges or in a close by tree. Kids fishing on the attached platforms while mom and dad have drinks just oozes family restaurant vibes. I absolutely love it. Food is always good. Great selection on a straightforward, not over complicated menu. The fried chicken burger with chips is a superstar meal, I do frequent the restaurant and have worked through most of the meals and everything is of great standard and the fish and chips is a definite competitor in a small seaside town list toppers. Kara, the owner, has really made this boat restaurant change course for the better, so it’s worth a visit.
