We arrived at the Island late in the evening with a dog. The Sandbar was one of the few places still opened, and they welcome d us. It was a cold evening, and they allowed us to bring our Yorkie inside so we were not freezing on the patio.
Everything about our experience was excellent. Service was attentive and polite, food came out quick and tasted amazing. We started with Coconut Shrimp. It was really good and had a unique dipping sauce. I had the Bacon Wrapped scallops and my wife had the Jerk Pasta. Both entrees were packed with flavor.
This is definitely a great spot, particularly if you travel with a pet.

Even before stepping inside, there was a sense that “The Sandbar” was destined to become a cherished spot. Situated a leisurely mile from our Hilton Head Island accommodations, the walk itself was a delight, filled with sunshine and the refreshing ocean breeze.
Upon arrival, “The Sandbar” immediately captivated with its beach-worn wooden exterior and inviting outdoor bar, complete with convenient walk-up windows. The selection of beach-perfect beverages and diverse seating options created an idyllic setting. The meticulously placed “The Sandbar” logos led us into a perfectly climate-controlled restaurant, seamlessly blending the outdoor ambiance with a modern, homey vibe. The expansive windows offered views of the impressive setup, including an equally stunning indoor bar. The staff were diligent, professional, and genuinely happy to be there, providing exceptional service.
The menus themselves are masterpieces, presenting an array of enticing options. The Loaded Hush Puppies are an absolute must-try, a culinary revelation that transcends dietary restrictions (unless allergic, of course). The fresh fish was delectable, and choosing from the taco selection was a delightful challenge. Opting for the shrimp tacos, I put their culinary skills to the test, and they exceeded expectations. The grilled shrimp was expertly charred, resulting in a genuinely fresh and delicious taco. The Parmesan Grouper was a luxurious blend of fresh and savory flavors. To complete the experience, we sampled the HILTON HEAD ISLAND LOCAL CRAFT Lager, an exceptional brew that perfectly encapsulates the essence of the scene, adorned with an artistic can.
If you’ve made it this far, it’s because I needed to express the sheer perfection of this establishment. Credit is due to the owner and every employee who contributes to this remarkable place. Thank you for creating such an exceptional experience!

The sand Bar is my absolute favorite bar on the island. I usually start here and order the long weekend drink which includes four different alcohols. The staff is friendly always greet you. With a smile love that they own the coffee shop next-door. We ordered the jerk, chicken, wings, and barbecue wings, chicken quesadilla and then we ordered the coconut shrimp when I tell y’all the food is absolutely 10 out of 10 the flavors. Their cocktails is amazing. It usually loosen you up so you can enjoy your vacation a long weekend on the island without no regret the owners are super sweet the wait just depends on the season when you come to visit how long your wait will be if you’re off-season you just come walk on in in season summertime you may have to wait a little bit there’s no reservations this first come first serve. They have indoor outdoor seating outside. usually have live music in the back. You should come in the winter time December when they have a lot of band and they’re playing music while you’re eating your grouper fish and coconut shrimp love the sandbar it is number one on the island, they are sauces come with the food is so good. They have something for everyone else. I’ll bring my kids most of the time and everyone has something that they can pick off the menu. They have a variety. SHRIMP PO BOY $18.00; 5.5/10- the bun was not toasted enough and shrimps were decent but not very flavorful. The sauce was the star of the show, it kinda had a kick to it and the fries tasted like school lunch fries.
FISH & CHIPS; $16.00(For a SINGLE serving of FISH & a serving Fries); 2/10- the fish was warm but fried pretty hard in some areas which made it a bit hard to chew. It was also not very flavorful, it tasted like it was only seasoned with salt. We got veggies instead of the fries(which it normally comes with) and they were alright, they came out hot and lightly seasoned.
COASTAL CRAB CAKE SANDWICH $18.00; 5/10- the bun was regular, the veggies kinda tasted bland and the crab cake texture was a bit off but with the sauce it was ok to eat. The tater tots were very dry and a quite hard and came stuck together, was not that good.
SANDBAR NACHOS (added CHICKEN which was an extra $5) $13.00; 3/10 – first of all this was A LOT (literally and figuratively), I genuinely do not know how to describe this. It didn’t really have much of a taste just salty and mushy and a lot of chest burn. The tortillas were oddly thick and heavy and didn’t taste real, the chicken came shredded and lacked a lot of flavor and was kind of dry, the corn didn’t taste like corn and didn’t have much of a presence, and the cheese was very salty and had that puke taste. Aside from the fact that this tasted bad, the majority of the cheese was at the bottom and we didn’t realize there was cheese until we got closer to the bottom. This made the paper it came on soggy and if you are using a fork it could get in the nachos as you’re eating. This made me mentally and physically sick while eating it, I absolutely do not recommend.

Dinner night out. Our first time here. This was a great experience. We ordered coconut shrimp and she crab soup for appetizer. Both were fantastic, the soup was definitely one of the best I’ve had and I get this item almost every place that serves it so my standard is high. Dinner was blackened Grouper and Seafood pasta. Both were outstanding, very flavorful and fresh. Again we order these dishes a lot and this is a top spot for us now. A must try for anyone looking for some great seafood.
Sorry I took some of the pictures after we started eating.

We had lunch here today. Food was really food. You can tell that this place is popping all year round. We had shrimp Tacos, Jerk Chicken tacos and some delicious tator tots. They have a bar inside and outside. Also heaters outside to accommodate brave souls that do sit outside is the chillier season. Pet and children friendly

Underwhelming experience based on the reviews we received. sadly, our food came out cold including the fries. The Cho co shrimp was the best we had. Drinks were weak, stick with beers. Two of us had shrimp tacos which were decent, chips were stale. Overall, you’re paying for the vibe and location to the beach.

The sandbar chef and staff did it once again! We’ve been here years ago, but it tasted just as delicious as we remembered it from before. The food was fresh, hot, and delicious! I love the beachy chill atmosphere and the music they play. They sat us down immediately upon arrival. The servers were outstanding and checked in just enough. Not too much and didn’t leave us stranded for a long time. We ended up coming here twice in our short weekend getaway and food and service was top notch both times. Thank you!
We ordered: Smoked Salmon BLT, Shrimp and chips, grouper sandwich, fish tacos, virgin piña colada and virgin peach colada. The peach colada was a bit too sweet for our liking, but both drinks were still good. They also had 2 types of local hot sauces on the table. We liked them so much that we went to the local shop: Hot Daddy’s Sauce and Oil, and bought some to take home.

What a fun place! The live music was a nice touch, but the food certainly makes it worth a visit! I would skip the loaded tot appetizer next time, but the shrimp cocktail appetizer was a hit! I personally had the bacon wrapped scallops and they were perfect. Fried plantains served with the entrees was a nice touch, and my daughter was ecstatic that cheese sticks and fries was an option on the kids menu.

Had lunch there with group of 5. Menu offers many options. I had jerk chicken tacos with candied pineapple and it was out of this world! Came with two large tacos and chips and salsa. The outdoor seating area is very nice with fans to keep it comfortable. Service was very good and server was very pleasant and helpful. Food arrived quickly and server was very attentive. Food portions were large and food was at the appropriate temperature when it arrived at the table. Check was under $100.00 for 5 adults for lunch, which was reasonable for the quality of the food and the atmosphere. (Several of us had alcoholic beverages with the meal). Can’t wait to eat there again!
