Delicious breakfast food. The staff are incredibly friendly. I love how much farm to table options there are. The atmosphere is very cozy.

The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly! They knew we were tight on time to catch a ferry out of New London and did everything they could to help us get the kids fed before our sailing, we couldn’t appreciate their service more. I’d highly recommend a stop here for a great local dining experience if you are passing by the area, thank you Salty Heifer!

Leaving the casino this morning, I was trying to find a place for breakfast and I found this place, and it was truly excellent. It was the best option I could have found. And the place is definitely excellent, the food is excellent, the service is excellent, a really very nice place.

We loved this quaint little family run restaurant with a country feel. It is 12 minutes from Foxwoods and well worth it. The food is excellent and fairly priced. Home cooked meals and warm welcomes are what you’ll receive here. There are separate tables if you like privacy or seating at a horseshoe diner table where you’re sure to spark up conversation with the local folk. This is what a diner should be. A gathering of friends, and strangers who become friends, over a good hot cooked meal. We will be back!

A friend and I were in the area for poker and looking for somewhere great to eat before playing. We came across The Salty Heifer and were game to give it a try because of the name alone – before reading any reviews. Thankfully, we weren’t disappointed. Yesterday afternoon, I had the best burger ever (The Phoenix Rising Burger); so much so that we returned again this morning to repeat that meal. So, for the first time ever in my life, I’m having a burger for breakfast.

If you’re looking for great food, energy / vibes and a really cool space to enjoy it all, then The Salty Heifer is the where you want to come.

I don’t think I’ve ever left a public review for a diner/restaurant, but I need to share a few thoughts about this little gem. My love and I had spent the prior day at Mohegan Sun, and decided to spend the afternoon in Mystic before taking the ferry back to Long Island. We had been in the mood for a real breakfast – comfort diner food – after several nice meals at the casino. We literally drove past The Salty Heifer, I asked if she’d noticed the sign, she said she was about to say the same, so we pulled in about 1:20, and saw they were closing at 2. Evidently we had just missed the ribbon cutting ceremony, but the universe made sure we were there in time to eat.

We asked if we still had time to eat, they led us to the tables, and not once was there a hint of being rushed. (Trust me. Not all NYers like to rush. This was a welcome pace.)

We couldn’t decide on eggs or pancakes, so we split our orders, (which we often do, and highly recommend). We had to try the Salty Heifer Breakfast – could’ve stopped there. But couldn’t. Also got a veggie omelet. Sara was the ultimate waitress, and offered us fresh fruit cup instead of a second potatoes, since one came with the SH Breakfast. All eggs were perfectly done – the omelet and the eggs over medium. The fruit, ( w/ salmon colored watermelon!), sausages and perfectly thin and crisp bacon were pure comfort. And the pancakes… and coffee… yeah, you get the idea.

Everything was farm-to-table, and some of the freshest ingredients we’d tasted. When she realized we enjoyed the food and its sources, Sara gave us the history of everything on our plates, all without ever interrupting our meal. It all just felt like a home away from home. Yeah I’m gushing a bit, but we’re from NY – we have our fair share of diners. But The Salty Heifer is a place we would frequent regularly. So, while we are telling all our friends, and making this a stop on their trips to casinos or Mystic, we need all of you who live close enough, to make sure this place thrives so it’s there every time we return.

Oh, I said we were on our way to Mystic I’d always wanted a slice of Mystic Pizza, from the movie. But Sara told us about the ice cream, so we had that in the car and bought blueberry pound cake for the ferry. Needless to say, we were too full from our brunch for any slice – and would do it all again.

Ronnie the owner our waitress Sara showed amazing hospitality! She gave top notch service and the food was FARM FRESH! They even have goats, but we missed them that day because it was raining. The ice cream was ADDICTIVE and homemade, I was sad I was missing the brisket special on the weekend but the French toast was scrumptious and my fiancé really liked the potatoes. We loved the family feel and the good food and will definitely come back , we wish this new restaurant all the best in the future !

My husband and I came here to eat a little bit ago. The food is extremely mediocre.

One negative thing that I witnessed and overheard was a manager or cook (?) yell aggressively at a young waitress in the kitchen. It seemed like the cook was under a lot of pressure. I understand restaurants are high pressure environments but there were only about 3 other tables. Including us at the counter! This cook was also yelling at another cook. Calling the person slow (as in mentally) and berating everything the person was doing!!

This place would be more populated and get more business if it had a better reputation and was maybe a little more kind to their employees. Has potential but is and graceless and mundane.
