This awesome restaurant is a little detour from 12, close to the Wrights Brother First Flight site. We were recommended to try this by a family friend who dined here a few years ago and bragged about how good their food was (they ended up eating two meals here during their Outer Banks trip).

The covered patio is the best thing since sliced bread. The backdrop is the marsh, there’s wonderful, sturdy seating, music playing through the speakers, screens to keep the bugs out. I felt like I was among nature while fine dining. It was truly amazing.

Hands down one of my favorite restaurants near the OBX! Appetizers are unique and to die for, preparing you for your also incredible main course to come! We were so full that we didn’t get to try any of the desserts, but we will leave room for them next time!

Top notch everything. We’ve come to The Saltbox Cafe every year since we discovered it over 5 years ago and every time, It Is Delicious. This time was no exception and might’ve been the best meal I’ve ever had there. We always get the bbq shrimp appetizer. And I had the crab cake with crispy brussel sprouts and baby potatoes over a candied bacon cream. PHENOMENAL. My husband had the pork loin with green beans and mashed potatoes. Also delicious! Service is always great. You’ll want a reservation for groups more than 2 (if you can get one in the summer) but if you’re just a party of two, chances are you’ll be able to walk in for bar seating. Parking gets crowded and is fairly limited so be ready for that.

Our airbnb recommended this place for breakfast/brunch and we decided to test it out. As you all know, i looove French toast so I ordered their Strawberries and Cream French toast and my husband being a smoked salmon eggs Benedict addict tried to request one since they have a smoked salmon sandwich and a Crabby Benedict on the menu, I was surprised they agreed to do it for him and only once. it turned out very delicious for him and he enjoyed it very much. So the photo I am going to post is not on their menu. The french toast for me is a little too sweet because of the strawberry compote but nevertheless it tastes good. I also ordered their pomberry mimosa which is also good. Staff are nice too! I definitely recommend this place!

This place is a little off the beaten path but totally worth it. It is the best meal we have had in OBX. The fried fish of the day was a tilefish with a remoulade that was excellent. The BLT was fantastic on thick French bread, as was the gyro and the tomato soup and grilled cheese on thick French bread. Staff was so accommodating and friendly as we got there a bit late for lunch. I really cannot recommend this place more highly. So glad we came upon it.

I am beyond impressed with the restaurant. The customer service, food, and atmosphere were excellent. I live about 40 minutes away from the restaurant nonetheless, the BOH had great timing because the food was fresh when I got there. Due to the drive I was expecting the food to get a big cold or soggy, but was pleasantly surprised. The food was still warm crispy and absolutely delicious. A true hole in the wall. We stopped by on our way out of the area and we will definitely return. Lemon ricotta pancakes and French toast were amazing, and to top it off, their staff were all so friendly and kind. It’s a MUST if you are in the area.
