I will say this is 4 1/2 star review. First time here and it was a hitbwith the family. The appitizers were the hit if the dinner. We had the Farmers board charcuterie. Great selection of items as well as placement of items. The spring rolls were delicious and the BBQ shrimp was delicious and my favorite. I could not get enough of the BBQ sauce. Ended up putting it on almost everything we had. Even ordered extra bread to dip in the sauce. We loved the bread as well. We also had an order of roasted brussel sprouts. For the main courses we had the lamb loin with broccoli, pan Seared crabcake, the porkchop dinner with onions and potatoes, and sn order of shrimp and grits. I started out with the soup special which was the Thai curry pumpkin soup. Fir dessert we tried the chocolate almond cake which was very good and the lemon ricotta pie. I did not really taste much lemon but the chocolate almond cake was good. The service was excellent. Everyone was friendly and the staff were very attentive. The atmosphere us very casual and fun. The pricing was about average. Overall a great place and experience. We will be back. The star of the dinner was the appitizers.

First let me say I respect the chef and owner very much as I expressed these thoughts to him and we had a respectful conversation even if we had different opinions. We started with the baked pimento crab dip served with kettle cooked chips. The dip was good but the chip was a Food Lion Wavy chip for $1.99 a bag. Se for yourself in the pictures. I would not serve this dish as is. I would replace the chips with a baguette. My wife had the pork ribs with sweet potato fries. The ribs were really good and the serving was quite generous. I had the local catch which was a piece of tuna topped with a charred tomato and pepper jelly served on a sweet corn puree with old bay roasted potatoes. I didn’t care for it. There was too much going on with all the different tastes and flavors. The tuna could not have been more than 6 ounces. The roasted potatoes were served in the sweet corn puree so they lost both the crispy texture and the old bay flavor. We dined outside. It’s a nice little café, and the owner is a class act.

Found this place on the map before arriving to our campsite and had this on our list to try. Of all the great food we had in OBX, this was the best!!! Loved the screened in patio for dining, very cute… the staff was super friendly, great drink and cocktail selection, and the food is to die for!! The ribs were superb, as was the Cajun Shrimp and Grits! We had our dessert to go and also amazing and a great many different options!

This place was incredible all the way around! Our server Keri was excellent across the board from recommendations to the freshness and care of ingredients. Small in size but huge on flavor! Everything was cooked to perfection and super tasty. Our party went in for Sunday Brunch and I had the shrimp and grits while others had the crabs Benny or the pineapple pancakes. We will definitely be making this place a MUST on every trip to the OBX, and will also try and make it in for dinner service. Great job guys!

A great find in OBX! We arrived at opening on a Sunday morning for brunch and were blessed to be seated without a reservation on the porch.
The service was excellent, staff was friendly, and brunch was awesome at a very reasonable price.
Wife and I both had blueberry pancakes and our little dude had pancakes as well!
Also was thankful for the paper table cloth that our son could color on. #W
Look forward to returning for lunch and/or dinner in the future !

Found this place on the way back from a ride in the Outer Banks, came here because of the good reviews. This place did not disappoint. However, if you don’t want to sit at the bar or outside, call and make a reservation in advance.
The food is outstanding. The service is very quick ,and the inside has a Beach theme , which is really nice.

This place is an absolute must stop! The food is amazing! The food is predictable and spot on every time. Menu changes every Friday. Crab cakes are some of the best I’ve had. Ribs amazing! Any fresh catch (tuna, tile fish) is incredible! Desserts are amazing! The ambiance on the porch is perfect for an evening out! Make reservations!

Visiting from out of state, the SaltBox Cafe was recommended to us, and it was definitely worth it! The food was delicious (and we’re very picky)! They were able to make some accommodations for our dietary restrictions and allow us to enjoy the scrumptious meal. Dessert was superb. Brandy, or server, was excellent. The ambience on the Porch was fantastic. We enjoyed listening to Kim Kalman’s beautiful voice, and it was a pleasure meeting her later.

Great first experience a the SaltBox. Our server Brandy was very helpful and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious, we both had the crab cakes and split the java chip pie for dessert. I am gluten free so having this many options was a nice surprise. The live music was a pleasant touch. We will definitely be back next time we are back in the area. 10/10

Total knockout! 5 star food at very reasonable prices. We sat at the bar and got the stuffed portabella and the mushroom ravioli special and both were phenomenal. The wine was great and the service excellent. We will be back again for sure!
