Well worth a visit the staff are wonderful too. Thank you for a lovely evening in your restaurant.
So poppadoms to start, not freshly done. Semi stale tbh. Nice chutneys though. Onion bhajis and Ragda patties with chickpeas were very nice.
Table cleared, was left with the now used cutlery.
Mains came approx 10 mins later. Why not fresh cutlery ? The dinner plates were cold. Have never been to a curry house that has done that..
The rice portions weren’t particularly hot, the dansak was ok, , the chilli nan was great and my vindaloo was horrid. Very citric and salty. My partner ate all the main, not the rice. I left most of mine. When the waiter came to clear the table he asked if I wanted to take my vindaloo home, I said no it was horrid and he just cleared the table without question.
Not once as per the norm were we asked if everything was ok. The bill was paid and we left. No thank you and goodbye.
Honestly this is the least attentive semi shambolic restaurant with poor quality food I have ever visited.
Never again. Honestly I wouldn’t bother. Go elsewhere.
The starter of a special salad was supposed to be mixed leafs, onion and tomatoes with a slightly spiced chef dressing. This was brought with the main course biryani as I requested. Surprisingly it was a good size and had green olives, sweetcorn and queso. Disappointingly there was no spiced dressing, in fact the only dressing was the olive oil, vinegar and salt I added to it.
The main was a lamb biryani. A diversion from my usual vegetarian meal when I go to an Indian restaurant I have never been to before. This was the best part of the meal. Succulent and delicately spiced. Cloves, cardamom and cinnamon were all there with a hum of chilli and ginger. I ordered water only.
The atmosphere was good, due to a very large birthday party of around 30 people. If it had not been for them it would have been a very quiet setting.
Food was very flavourish compared to other indian places.
We ordered chicken better, chicken tikka misala, nan cheese garlic.. all of them were amazing. I didn’t like the butter bread, didnt have any flavour, just good nan.
Staff very polite.
Recommended 100% if you like indian food 🙂
They have agreed to start cooking twice a month for the men and women who are supported by a homeless charity I volunteer with, which will help us immensely with our daily food runs. Our friends on the streets are in for s treat. Please go and show The Saffron Lounge your support as it’s so nice if them wanting to give back to those in need in the community.
