After years of being a very strict and very picky eater I’ve been trying new things… decided to try chicken salad for the first time, I got the French hen… by far the freshest, cleanest, best tasting sandwich I’ve ever had in my life… it doesn’t even feel right calling it a sandwich, that was art. The flavors were incredible. Thank you for my new favorite obsession. The cinnamon roll latte was also such a great combination of vanilla and cinnamon with a bit of coffee, with great effects too! Can’t wait to try more from this great cafe! Thank you!!

The Rusted Root Café is an absolute gem! The chicken salad is hands-down the best I’ve ever had. I loved the Valentine’s décor—it made the café feel so cozy and festive.
The staff and customers were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. And don’t get me started on the Valentine Reese’s latte… so good!
I will definitely be back. Who would have known there was such a cute little coffee shop and bakery tucked away in Windsor, VA? Highly recommend!

Overall, I was impressed at how good the food and coffee was here. I stopped in not really thinking much, on the way to another place. This place surpassed expectations.
Good was fresh, and delicious. Good selection. Lots of sandwich options and baked goods. Portions were large, included a side.
Service was friendly. The items did take a minute to make but that was likely due to them just opening. Overall was too bad though, in and out with my coffee and food within 10 min.
Atmosphere is quaint, and cozy. It’s a smaller venue and seems relatively new. There is limited seating available.
Overall, I would recommend this place!

Absolutely LOVE this quaint little place! You can tell when love and heart go into something and it absolutely does here. My favorite is the iced mudslide best coffee drink hands down. They have quite a variety of items from coffee drinks to bakery items and sandwiches and wraps. Brunswick stew and pasta salad are also my favorites. There is just lots to choose from and so far I haven’t had anything I didn’t like! Highly recommend checking this place out!❤️

We enjoyed our visit here and will absolutely be back! The ladies working were all exceptionally pleasant, patient as we reviewed the menu (it was our first visit today) and super accommodating as I made a couple changes in my coffee order. They offered great suggestions, the food was tasty and the tables/decor are adorable — makes the entire experience very comfortable! Highly recommend!

Came back for the first time since early 2025. They got put under new management within the last few months and I really feel like the soul is missing from the rusted root. Before they sold it was one of a kind and now it feels extremely cookie cutter. I also feel like the food is cheap quality compared to the previous owner who put that soul in everything she made. Everything made before was to die for and unfortunately, i feel like its just not the same.

Nice, friendly staff for our first visit here. Just the right amount of options and a ton of holiday spirit in decor, baked goods and beverages. I don’t feel like I could go wrong trying anything they have to offer. My only complaint is their location isn’t closer to Smithfield, but if they keep doing what they are doing I can see them having additional future locations. Worth the drive though and plan on returning. If you haven’t tried it, you’re missing out!

Love this place!! Dropped in for lunch, had a great club sandwich and my husband had the cold plate…all of it tasted great! We shared a cinnamon roll…best one in IOWC!!!
