Really good food and had great service. I gave 4 stars for atmosphere because the metal chairs at most tables are very uncomfortable. Prefer to sit in a booth for better comfort.

Well… The fried green tomatoes were delicious. I can’t say that about the shrimp and grit cake thing or the chicken sandwich. The sandwich was dry the slaw was old and wilted. Those grit cakes were hard and super grainy. Like ya couldn’t chew it. I didn’t want the waitress to get me anything cause she REEKED of cigarette smoke. It was nauseating. Then the AC was broken or something. I don’t enjoy sweating while I pay for a meal. The root has gone down hill. I hope they turn it around. It used to be such a great little spot.

Stopped here on our way to Ashville. Nice find. Our burgers were cooked perfectly. The sweet potato fries were delicious! The brussel sprouts were good. A little too salty for our preference. Staff was polite and friendly.

Unassuming. Quaint. Tranquil. Elon is but a whistle stop of a town but there are some big surprises tucked away in this North Carolina hamlet and The Root Trackside is a perfect example. Two dining rooms set the stage for those seeking to whet their culinary curiosity. casual and family friendly vibes prevail.
A bevy of appetizers help start the party. You simply must try the spicy cauliflower! Imagine a vegetarian version of that ubiquitous Chinese orange glazed sesame chicken and you get the idea.
Our appetizer hit the table just as Led Zeppelin’s angelic tune “Your Time is Gonna Come” wafted out of the overhead speakers—unmitigated majesty! The menu boasts several burger, sandwich, and wrap selections that offer different takes on the old (boring) favorites. The skirt steak wrap came correct-(mine hit the table to Tina Turner’s “The Best” and my tastebuds fluttered like my heart on a first date. The fries were crispy and blistering hot but I’m assessing a penalty for room temperature ketchup. Call me eccentric if you wish but chilled ketchup is to hot french fries what heavy cream is to hot coffee. I’m just saying.
The chickpea sandwich (sorry but I just can’t bring myself to call it a burger but that’s the idea) offers the vegetarians a worthwhile option. The patty was crispy and served on a nice sturdy bun with all the fixings.
There is a full bar and plenty of beer/wine selections as well. Our server was a nice, friendly young lady who kept our beverages topped off and displayed just the right quantity of attentiveness.
All this just a country mile (or three) from those derelict strip mall store fronts that is Burlington-that’s nasty! Come on and check out what The Root Trackside has to offer.

The Root was a very nice experience. The booth are very high so you can feel separated from others eating in the restaurant. Since we were on a date night that was very appreciated. Food was cooked well by the chefs. Great atmosphere, great food, super nice staff. If you are in the Elon area, I would eat here. We will definitely be back!

I’m reporting on my 1st & only time at The Root Trackside: I would happily return. I ordered the Fried Green Tomato Caprese (from the “Between Two Buns” section of their menu). The portion size was perfect, and it was *absolutely delicious*. Our server was lovely, especially as she accommodated our need to be on time for a concert at nearby Elon University. My husband & I agreed that we would enjoy a return visit to The Root. And we’re picky. Go to The Root and see for yourself what a nice place this is.

Great food! Can. Get a bit loud but enjoyable. Disappointed in the desserts quality unfortunately- not their forte.

Stopped in for lunch while in the area. Food was delicious – especially the crispy brussels sprouts. The mushroom beef burger was so good that I’m going to mix mushrooms into our ground beef patties at home. Staff was attentive. It gets busy during peak hours. There is street parking

My family and I came in the night before Easter 2022 right before closing time. We are from the Raleigh area. One of us are vegetarian, one on the keto diet, and the others eat the normal American diet. We were all pleased and satisfied with the choices as well as the service and the prices. We had great service even though it was the end of the night. The fried Brussels were a little too overdone for me and the waitress later told me to ask for them to be “fried light” next time. That is one thing to keep in mind if it’s your first time visiting. Our night was topped off with the most kindest act from a stranger! An older couple paid for our entire meal and my family and I would like to strongly express our gratitude! Thank you for your kind gesture, it helped us a lot and we left that night with big smiles and happy tears! May you be blessed! ❤️
