Always a hit with my family, but this last visit was exceptional. I called ahead to place an order for pickup and the woman who answered was so friendly and upbeat, happy to help with a large order. She made sure to clarify my order a couple times and even rang up the price so I could be prepared. And of courde, the food was amazing as always!

Old school drive up hotdog stand. This is where my hotdogs come from and no one can tell me they’re not the best. It’s the same order I’ve had for decades when I could ride my bike to the now closed downtown location. This one is just as good as the others. There’s nothing *special about them, boiled/steamed meat in tube form. 2 CKO and a root beer, don’t judge me by NY standards. Sometimes I get a float. They’re seasonal so it’s always exciting when I get my first order in, it means spring/summer memories. You can order at the window and they have limited outdoor seating, but most folks park and eat in their car.

If you haven’t been to the root beer stand for a hotdog and a root beer, get in the car, hop on the bike, or run down here right this minute because hitting this spot is like stepping back in time to the best part of the 70s. The waitresses come right up to your car and the menus are posted directly in front of you and then they bring you your meal and put it on the window. The service is fast, friendly, and helpful. The food was delicious and priced fairly. The drinks were ice cold and delicious; best root beer around! I always hit this spot when I’m in town.

I grew up coming to the Hot Dog Stand for the occasional special treat. That was 30 years ago. Now that I’m back in Kalamazoo for a few days, I had to go back, this time with my wife and daughter. The service was terrific, the prices barely seem to have moved since the ’90s, and everyone left smiling. Highly recommend.

Affordable. Comfortable. Relaxing. I’m going to eat here everyday. 2 hotdogs, 1 lemonade, and popcorn for $9

Root beer floats are great, exactly what you’d hope for. I think they put very little effort or though into the food. I usually just skip out on the food, even the kids thought the hot dogs weren’t really cooked and seemed strange.

Perfect place to stop if you’re driving from Detroit to Chicago bc its barely a mile off I-94. Drive-in with amazing hot dogs (chili, cheese, mustard, onions) for less than $5. Open seasonally, they close in October for the winter.

Four words-
House-made root beer. Being someone who was born in 1970, I have many vivid, sun-tinted memories of hot summer days filled with all-day suburban rambling with my pack of pals during summer vacation from achool. I can smell hot dogs with crisp grill marks, feel the dewy condensation sliding down the outside of a chilled mug filled with root beer from the little shack down the road that had the best dogs, burgers, chili and root beer in town.
This place is that and more. This is my first summer in Michigan (after living in New Orleans for a decade) and due to the weeks of closures and being connfined to our house, I had not yet gotten to experience this incredible place. I left here full in every way-my belly full of fantastic chili cheese dogs and sublime root beer, my heart full of nostalgia and my soul full to the top with simple pleasures done exactly right.
