Irma doesn’t claim to be some state-of-the-art shop on the cutting edge of coffee roasting. And frankly, it doesn’t need to. Instead, this first-gen, Latina-owned business focuses on what it knows best: homemade coffee, traditional café de olla, and some great breakfast & lunch sandwiches that always make us want to sit in her cute little corner and enjoy while we work. Her café de olla is one of the best in town and comes full of aromatic cinnamon and sweet piloncillo (unrefined cane sugar with a molasses-like flavor). Everything gently bubbles together in a pot until the brew becomes a spicy, sweet, and eye-opening concoction that calls for some much-needed breakfast. Ask for her signature El Tren and El Despreciado Torta and don’t forget

When Cafe Cordoba down the street is closed or too full at times, I usually go to this coffee shop. Their cafe de ollas are also the best in the nation as well — hence, why I go to them so much more often. If you want to go for the pastries, go early though — they usually either run out by mid-morning or even before.
The hospitality at this coffee shop is top-notch. They literally make you feel at home, and their sandwich portions and their dessert portions are humongous. Any kind of cafecito you want? They got you. Feeling salty craving? They also got you as well. I love this place a lot, and it’s definitely a staple to the Fruitvale community in Oakland.
As soon as you walk in the ambiance drips from every corner. The staff is nice and they have a selection of interesting drinks and foods at very reasonable prices.
They have Wi-Fi and some power available. Seating is limited and therefore it can get a touch noisy so I wouldn’t come for an extended work session, but it’s charm and decor are worth experiencing.
