I found out about The Rolling Rooster on TikTok and decided to pull up on my lunch break from Ubering (strictly for research purposes, of course). The catfish is what got me — and listen… it did NOT disappoint.
I ordered the 4 shrimp / 2 fish / 2 sides combo (fried okra + seasoned fries) and a strawberry margarita. Total was about $25, which in ATX is basically a steal. The portions? Generous. The seasoning? On point. The catfish? Crispy, flaky, and seasoned like somebody’s grandma was supervising the kitchen.
I left full, happy, and slightly considering canceling my next delivery just to sit there longer.
I’ve tried a lot of spots around Austin, but this one? It really takes the crown. Amazing food, solid portions, and quality service.
10/10. Would risk my lunch break again.

Soul food restaurant with extensive menu of combo options including chicken, fish, waffles, sides, and oxtail. They have a longbar as well, including specials. There are many tables, booths, and bar seats. I loved the 90s hip hop and rnb.
The chicken tender option I got with the waffles were hearty enough the little plastic fork and knife had trouble cutting them. The hot sauce and syrup gave things the extra sweetness and spice they needed.
They have a huge free parking lot shared with other businesses in the same strip.

The Rolling Rooster has good fried shrimp. The mac and cheese was to really good and I would recommend as a must try. The service was great. Unfortunately the table that we were going to be sat at was dirty and the host cleaned it for us by wiping it down. He did forget to dry it, but grateful it was cleaned. (I dried it myself with napkins). The waitress was friendly and helpful. They offer Happy Hour but I did not try any alcoholic beverages this time. The tables seem like they need an overhaul, a tad too tall and wobbly from wear and tear. But overall would definitely say give this place a try and of course order the mac and cheese!

The tenders, fries and chicken wings tasted like it was cooked it old grease and had a slightly burnt appearance. The chicken lacked flavor, likely due to the old grease they fried it in. However, they were crispy. The condiments might’ve helped but everything was off brand (ketchup & ranch). The macaroni…I feel like it was stove top and not oven baked. It tasted very bland and was barely sprinkled/cooked with any cheese. The yams were super mushy and sweet…not sure if they were canned or fresh. I also had shrimp that the menu said was large but they were extremely small. Overall, the food was not worth the price. BUT on high note, the customer service was great. The ladies who helped me were super sweet & helpful. The atmosphere seemed cool too….they had a DJ in there. I went at night.

We had the fried fish and chicken wings i wasn’t disappointed at all with the food very tasty only thingi wish the fish had more meat they cut it really thin…the waitress would’ve gotten more tip if the restaurant didn’t automatically add the tip to our ticket for only two people…so we gave the waitress what they ask for $8
What happened to adding tip to the ticket with 5 or more seated?

First time here and had an AMAZING meal! The chicken is hands down some of the best I’ve had in town, fried okra was also seasoned excellently! Hubs had the chicken and waffle and he really enjoyed the waffle,, which can be lackluster at other spots serving the same dish.

Had this place saved for a while and finally got to check it out!! Everything was made super fresh and crispy & everyone was super nice and welcoming! we had some thick ahh wings and a buffalo chicken sandwich but we ate so fast I only got one picture definitely coming back for more ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m from Lubbock, Texas, and this is my first time in Austin. This place was recommended to me, and I was not let down at all. Malik took great care of me and my girl — he explained the menu really well and knew everything about it. Definitely a 10/10. Prices were great, and the food was awesome. Highly recommend!

We went earlier today order 2 things of chicken and waffles one with buffalo sauce. It was my first time ever trying chicken and waffles… fried chicken 10/10 was amazing! We even got some of their kool-aid pickles the blue raz was my favorite. Wonderful experience all around and the lady in the front was super kind an amazing person all together! Definitely will be coming back.

My mom and I went today for the first time. And I am so happy we tried it out. Everything we tried was so delicious. the chicken tenders did not have heavy breading which was so nice and the Mac and cheese was delicious and had great flavor. We had the peach cobble after and my my my did we enjoy it. We will definitely be back.
