Love the freshness of the fish! We had chirashi bowl (different name on menu), temaki (hand rolls), maki and sashimi (see attached pictures). They were all so delicious and carefully put together. Prices are not cheap but reasonable. Totally love this place! Our servers were friendly and attentive.

January 2025:
Came here for lunch on a Thursday right when they opened. My wife chose this place to celebrate her birthday.

Started with the salmon skin salad. Really enjoyed the salad. There was a lot of salmon skin that was nicely crisped up. Just the way I like it.

I had the lunch set menu which came with Miso soup, seaweed salad, four pieces of nigiri, an avocado inari, and three pieces of salmon maki. It was a lot of food and everything was very tasty .

My wife had the chirashi and she enjoyed it too. They surprised my wife with a birthday cheesecake. We appreciated the lovely gesture.

Overall, liked my meal and will definitely be back for more delicious food.

The Roll is easily one of the best sushi spots I’ve tried recently. The vibe here is very modern and contemporary – clean lines, nice lighting, and a relaxed but stylish feel that makes you want to stay a little longer. It doesn’t feel like a typical sushi joint; it’s got more of a trendy, upscale atmosphere while still being comfortable.

The food itself was outstanding. Everything we ordered tasted super fresh, and you could really tell the quality of the fish. The sushi had that perfect balance of texture and flavor, and every bite felt light but satisfying. On top of that, the way the dishes were plated was beautiful – you almost don’t want to touch it at first because it looks so nice.

Overall, if you’re looking for sushi that’s both delicious and presented in a modern, stylish setting, The Roll should definitely be on your list.

Don’t know how I just found about this gem in soma! Seems like not many people know about it. We were skeptical about the photoshopped photos and the name and the overwhelming 5 star reviews, but it was so legit. On a slightly pricier side compared to your average sushi restaurant but comparable to Akari and Kombu and we liked that they have so much more options.
The chirashi set was great, loved that they had oden as well. Area is sketch and don’t make our mistake of going to the sushi place next door!

This was my first time at the Folsom location after visiting their Marina District spot a few times. The food here is excellent, super fresh sushi and perfectly seasoned rice. Service has been consistently good every time.

Personally, I prefer the ambience and plating at the Marina location; it feels a bit more suited for date nights, but their business hours are pretty limited.

One change I noticed: their rolls used to come with 10 pieces, but now it’s 6. I’m guessing it’s a necessary adjustment to stay afloat. It’s not a big deal and it just means ordering a bit more. The food’s good enough that I really hope they stay open.

My friend also loved the nigiri here. One small downside was that the 6-piece combo included two pieces of the same type of fish, so you only get to try three varieties. Would’ve liked a bit more variety.

After visiting Japan back in February I’ve been hesitant eating sushi stateside only because it’s tough to match. Well, I tested the waters again with The Roll and I have to say, WOW!! I was pleasantly surprised. The rolls were so flavorful, the wasabi so fresh, and their traditional cheesecake is a whole other level of incredible. The staff and service were spot on as was the restaurant’s clean and cool ambience. Do yourself a favor and give this sushi place a try. I look forward to the next time I’m in town just for this place.

Tried the new hand rolls at The Roll SF — super fresh and delicious! Dine-in only because the seaweed stays crisp. Starting at $6, the quality and price are unbeatable in SF.

Also tried their new cheesecake — creamy and melts in your mouth Staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend!

While traveling in the U.S., I was looking for a great Japanese spot in San Francisco with good value and that’s how I came across The Roll. I’ve been to Japan many times, and outside of highend omakase, this was the closest I’ve had to truly authentic sushi. When I visited, it was the weekend, so there was a bit of a wait, but it was absolutely worth it. The sushi was incredible, and the staff were so friendly. They even gave me great recommendations for places to visit and eat in San Francisco. Out of all the restaurants I’ve been to in the U.S., this one left the strongest impression.

I’ve been a regular here for a while, and the food quality is consistently stunning. Seriously, the food is no joke—even the side dishes are incredibly fresh.

You absolutely have to try the Signature Roll and the Kaisen Don—you won’t regret it. They also recently added Temaki hand-rolls, which are amazing for the price.

As for a side, the Oden is a must-have; its broth has a deep, savory umami that warms your body and soul. It’s honestly my favorite thing on the menu for pairing.

The atmosphere is comfortable and clean, and I’m quickly becoming a regular here.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
