This place was fantastic. 1st off..best steak tip I have eaten. Then I got an Artic Mocha drink. It was like open mouth kissing Rudolph while Santa watched. Tasted like a magical Christmas night. It was fabulous

The Autumn Experience
We so appreciate the River Tap and Grill here in our little town. It’s kinda the only thing we have, but it’s obvious that they put great thought into the menu and overall atmosphere. They have a creative drink menu, and a diversity of choices on the food menu. Everything sounds really good, but I’ve found the food to be hit or miss unfortunately. If it’s good, it’s typically really good. I’ve never had anything “bad”. Where I’ve had lesser great experiences with the food would be like the sauces on things were overkill, like on the brussel sprouts. In other cases the item just wasnt a wow. Especially because some of the prices are right up there with Portland restaurants.
A few things I have enjoyed there are:
Burgers: super good if done right
Haddock bites
Greek salad with salmon

The interior is cozy and the deck has nice views. There is ample parking.

The staff is always nice and personable.

We have been to River Tap a number of times, most recently yesterday. My friend and I both ordered one of the margaritas and both found them stronger than most margaritas (if that is your styler, then you’ll love it). Another member of our party had the snowball and that one was delicious. We loved the pretzels for our appetizer. I had a Reuben and it was very good along with the fries. Overall, we had a great time and love the atmosphere inside. We will definitely be back!

Had a really nice brunch at The River Tap & Grill. The eggs and sausage were really good. The staff were fantastic and friendly. The eating areas and facilities were all cleaned well and maintained nicely. A good place for a meal.

We have eaten here dozens of times and only had one bad experience. Unfortunately, we were entertaining guests at the time. The food is usually consistent and they always have a good selection of cocktails and beer. You can get a good view of the Saco river and golfers in season.

One of Hollis’ little gems, close by and convenient, without driving toward the cluttered coastline for a meal.

We are thankful that they survived Covid-19 and that they are still keeping up on their game. You better make reservations a day or two ahead of time if you want to dine during busy times or weekends.

Like with every other place, prices have gone up with inflation, but they still are compatible given their menu selection. If you want to have a beer at a reasonable price, Happy Hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays are your best bet. They also have half off on munchies at that time.

The meals are delicious. but if there is the occasional glitch, they are happy to know about it, as they always give the impression that they are trying to stay on top of their game. The waitresses are continually receptive to recommendations and comments.

Speaking of waitstaff, in all the dozens and dozens of times we have been there, we have always been greeted with a smile and treated courteously.

We are flexible enough not to go at busy times, but with the bar seating, high tops, the dining room, and the nice outdoor deck in good weather, you have a lot of options. Spring, summer, and early fall offer the option of looking out the windows and watching folks hit the little white ball and then go search for it. River views are available year round.

There is one area for improvement and that is noise. When the bar area is 1/3 to 1/2 full the noise level starts to increase to the point folks start talking louder to their companions and the bar keeps to be heard, and it increases from there. Perhaps some sound absorbing panels are in the upgrade budge?. We deal with it, but one friend refuses to go back. However, the dining area and the deck in the in-season offer quieter alternatives.

Enjoy a nice meal and a cold beverage along the shores of the Saco River! We frequently do

I went for dinner for my birthday! The food was amazing 10/10. I got the fish and chips and it was cooked perfectly! Although it was great food our service wasn’t the greatest. We had asked for another drink but wasn’t brought one. At the end of dinner we had told our waitress that it was my birthday. All she said back to us was oh well sorry the cake is dry. I was waiting for her to offer something else but simply just walked away. We were kind of thrown off by everything especially where as there was another birthday they brought cake out to. I’m not sure if she didn’t believe us or not but I had a gift in plain sight on the table. Food was great service wasn’t as pleasant.

Been here a couple of times over the past couple of years and have always walked away dissatisfied. Food is okay, but not the high fare they advertise. The service is lacking if you aren’t a regular or local. I found it to be very snobbish, which surprised me for a backwoods Maine local. I’ve traveled all over the country and beyond and have never felt the snubbing like I have here. Including some of the finish restaurants in Boston, NY, or San Francisco. I’ll ride another few minutes and spend $$ at the coast! Never again.

To respond to the Proprietors questions: last visit was 8/10/2025. Time was 6:30. Dinner was baked stuffed haddock which was dry and little stuffing. We sat at the bar and had the bartender ask those who were apparently locals, how their meals were and didn’t experience that ourselves. We asked the bartender with a “when you get a moment” attention to get a glass of water and it took a couple of attempts while she was cleaning up/putting things away at the bar for the bartender to acknowledge. I thought it was odd that she was doing g that since the bar/establishment didn’t close for a bit yet. It’s kind of like clearing the table at your dinner party while your guest are still eating IMHO. But worse… we were paying (and tipping).
