With its lofty dimensions, exquisite wooden floors and floor-to-ceiling windows offering stunning views of the Harbourside, The River Grille is one of Bristol’s most elegant dining venues – famed for its superb steaks, vibrant ambience and unique setting.
Modern British dishes made with local ingredients in a vast restaurant with waterside views.

Visited The River Grille at The Bristol recently and really enjoyed the experience.
The setting is a big part of the appeal — right on the waterfront with lovely views across the harbour, which makes it feel special without being overly formal. It’s a calm, polished space that works well for both a relaxed dinner and a smarter occasion.
The menu leans towards modern British with seasonal ingredients, and everything felt well prepared and thoughtfully presented. Service was attentive without being intrusive, and the pace of the meal felt comfortable.
It’s not somewhere you’d describe as casual dining, but the quality and setting justify it. A great option if you’re looking for a refined meal in central Bristol with a waterside backdrop.

Did Reservations and went for a birthday celebration and completely loved everything about the food and hospitality by staff. There was live music which made the ambience lit even though the lights were dim. The food was excellent especially the steak because it was fantastic. The service was impeccable and very cheerful by our host Ian. There’s a wide collection of wines and alcohols as well. The dessert a cheesecakebwas also too good also. A must visit place right alongside the harbour and easy to spot too. Accessibility is also available.

Came to the river grille for a birthday, service was fantastic start to finish. We were running late and the staff were so accommodating. Seated with a view of the docs all lit up was a lovely touch, the table arrangements made the dinner feel personal and private. All staff were fanstastic; very polite, regularly checking in and so kind. Joe made our evening particularly fantastic. We enjoyed a birthday cocktail and desert which ended the evening perfectly. Staff were the perfect amount of involved in the dinner, all very charming and friendly. 10/10 would highly reccomend and will be returning. Cannot believe we haven’t been to this lovely place sooner. Also food was incredible!

I come here for a pre-theatre dinner, and I really enjoy the experience. First, they have a pre-theatre menu, which for just 30 pounds you get a two-course dinner plus a glass of wine. A very good deal. The ham hock terrine is terrific, and comes with some greens as well. I also have the wild mushroom pot pie and it’s done very nicely, very flavourful. It comes with chips and glazed carrots. And I get an excellent view of the harbour from the table, which is relaxing and provides a comfy setting in which to enjoy my meal. Service is quick, and servers are all very pleasant and attentive. I had a reservation elsewhere for this, but because of the horrid experience there I walked out. So glad I come by the River Grille. It’s fortunate that I have a lovely dinner here.

The restaurant has a lovely vibe and a really welcoming atmosphere. The cocktails were very tasty, and our starters were excellent. My steak was slightly more cooked than I had requested, but it was still enjoyable. Overall, we were very pleased with the experience and will definitely be coming back again.

Outstanding. Beautifully cooked steak, we had fillets rare, and plenty of wine choice paired with the meal. Quick, kind, polite service. Wonderful atmosphere, with a view out over Bristol.

Fantastic service, delicious food and really lovely atmosphere. Such a nice view, the tables of 2 at the window are stunning. The menu was extensive but not too large and each dish was beautiful. The French onion soup was gorgeous and the duo of duck I highly recommend.

A lovely riverside restaurant, with a really nice vibe. Our waitress Fowsiya was so lovely and very attentive. I had fomo when I saw the pork belly, it looked delicious and I wish I had ordered that instead of the mushroom bourginon pie, which didn’t taste overly like it had wine in it. But a pleasant evening all in all, the chocolate fondant was amazing!
