My wife and I had a wonderful NYE dinner here this evening. The place was extremely busy, but that’s what I like to see! We didn’t have reservations, but Anthony didn’t think twice about finding us a seat. Our waitress Danielle was great as well! Definitely my favorite Italian spot in the capital district, even prior to becoming The Ritz when it was just “Homestyle.”
Wishing you all a safe and wonderful new year!

Our waitress Nicole was stellar! She was attentive to our every need. The varied menu demonstrated a world-class knowledge of culinary expertise! The pricing was absolutely reasonable considering the quality of the cuisine and the portions were generous.

Meh, with 67 other spots for Italian in Schenectady… try 66 of them first.

-yet another spot with vermouth on the rack and not refrigerated.
-Pasta Fagioli, bland. Mushy overcooked pasta.
-Meatballs, bland. Overworked, dense, tough. Served sloppy and barely over room temp.
-steamed clams, excellent. Great balance of acid and cooked well.
-Broccoli Rabe, over cooked. Lacked salt, pushing army green.
-Philly steak, good roll. Nice fermentation and blistering. Ribeye was very tender, lacked seasoning. Fries were the highlight. Crispy, soft on the inside, seasoned.

Failed at the basics, whole spot comes off as if it’s owned by business men and not educated culinary people. Lunch was terrible, no reason to attempt dinner.

This was our first time at The Ritz. We went during restaurant week. Our meals were delicious and the portions were so large that I took half of mine home. My husband and I started with the burrata beet salad. I ordered the eggplant parm and my husband ordered the lasagna. Because it was restaurant week there were 3 courses for a fixed price. We had Zeppoles and flourless chocolate cake for dessert. The wine list was very nice. We both loved our meals and the service was excellent. This is a restaurant we will be returning to.

If you recognize great business, you’re going to LOVE this place!! From 5-Star food with a wealth of GF & Vegetarian options to accommodate some restrictive diets, to the relaxed atmosphere and, all capped off with absolutely STELLAR service!!!

All of the Staff I encountered were kind and fun in their own right. Our Server, Bella however is the type of person a Restaurant would DREAM to have 5 more of. She is an absolute treasure of a human who we discussed with as much adoration as we shared for the delicious food and drinks she brought us. The food and drinks deliver a quality that exceeds their price-point which is increasingly hard to find.

I greatly respect the Business of Restaurant, it is not easy. Even still I grade exceptionally hard. This place is easily 10/10. Little details that separate “really good” establishments from “really great” business are often lost in the shuffle of a busy restaurant. The Ritz stands up and shines in my book by still serving warm bread & butter (which may be an ideal that I have carried on from my grandfather) and, with a present Owner/Manager circulating the room, running food and checking on tables to keep a pulse on the guest experience.

The point is, they’re doing something really genuinely wholesome and good at all levels here, and it makes The Ritz on Union really very special.

Service:First time on father day appetizers took an hour and the entree took an hour and a half. The waitress was great and attentive. The tables are too small for a table of 4 so they gave us an extra side table which we really appreciated since all the tables were bunched together and very tight.

Food: the spaghetti squash with salmon was not good and pretty bland but the presentation was beautiful. The salmon risotto was 6/10. I thought the risotto was good but not to eat with the salmon and balsamic sauce. The salmon alone was good but again I didn’t think it paired well with the risotto. The fries were great for the kids and they ate the pizza as well.

Overall great service outside of the long wait but again it’s father’s day. Since we don’t eat meat we won’t be back as we weren’t impressed with both salmon dishes. Nice place though and great choices for meat eaters

Absolutely outstanding dining experience! The eggplant parm was exceptional—perfectly layered, rich, and full of flavor, easily one of the best I’ve ever had. The salmon dinner was fantastic as well, cooked to perfection and beautifully seasoned. To top it all off, the specialty cakes made by Marjan were simply amazing—fresh, delicious, and crafted with so much care. Every dish felt special, and you can truly taste the passion behind the food. Highly recommend!
