The Rex Seaside Steakhouse is an anchor in Redondo Beach–a true example of what fine dining should be. Every detail reflects meticulous craftsmanship, from the thoughtfully prepared cuisine to the grace, class, and genuine gratitude shown in the service, all within a beautifully designed setting.

My fiancée and I first visited shortly after they opened, and we were immediately impressed–not just by the food, but by the exceptional level of care. Since then, we’ve become regulars. For me, attentiveness and attitude can make or break a dining experience, and the team at The Rex consistently delivers world-class hospitality. The staff go out of their way to anticipate your needs and make every visit feel special.

Some of my go-to dishes include the Captain’s Shrimp and Wedge Salad, the Tagliatelle (I highly recommend adding extra kale), and the Short Rib, which is outstanding. All of the steaks are excellent, with the Filet being a personal favorite. The sides are thoughtfully executed, and we almost always finish with the Butter Cake, which is the perfect ending. The Prime Rib, available Sundays and Mondays, is also something special and absolutely worth experiencing.

The Rex continues to set the standard for fine dining in the South Bay, and it remains one of our favorite places for a consistently exceptional evening.

As a longtime patron of The Rex–having dined here since its opening–I can confidently say it has filled a much-needed niche for a premier steakhouse in Redondo Beach.

The service is exceptional, with every staff member–from hosts to servers to management–attending meticulously to details and accommodating special requests with grace.

The cuisine is outstanding: steaks are grilled to perfection, accompanied by remarkable sides and desserts. Standouts include the filet mignon with garlic butter, the superb steak tartare, the exquisite lobster gnocchi, and the newly added scallops over risotto (now a personal must-order). The meal is elevated further by the warm bread with butter, the captain’s grilled shrimp, and the unforgettable butter cake for dessert.

One note: the restaurant is consistently busy, so reservations are strongly recommended. On peak nights, the lively atmosphere can make intimate conversations challenging.

Rex Steakhouse in Redondo Beach exceeded our expectations once again. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and well taken care of. The atmosphere is refined yet comfortable ~perfect for a special dinner or an evening out with friends.
We started with the octopus appetizer, which was beautifully presented and perfectly tender ~one of the best we’ve had. The ribeye steak was exceptional: flavorful, juicy, and cooked exactly to our preference. The restaurant’s wine selection is impressive, and our pairing recommendation complemented the meal perfectly.
Our server, Micaela, was absolutely delightful ~ warm, professional, and attentive throughout the evening. Even though the steak took a little longer to arrive this time, the quality and taste made it entirely worth the wait.

Rex Steakhouse continues to deliver a truly elevated dining experience, balancing exquisite food, excellent service, and a welcoming ambiance. We’ll definitely be back soon and highly recommend it to anyone looking for one of the best steakhouses in the South Bay area.

My husband and I went for dinner for our anniversary. I was really looking forward to dining here. But that came to an end very quickly right off the bat. The hostess started by trying to sit us at a very small table on a conjoined booth next to a big party of guests. The table was too small, I felt crammed in and I wanted a quiet dinner with my husband. I requested the hostess to move us and she said no. She said they have other reservations. Well, I wasn’t going to enjoy the experience there and my husband said let’s just leave. I did end up having to ask the hostess to involve the manager to move us to another table and it felt like an act of congress to be accommodated. Not what I expected from a highline dining establishment. The manager even made me feel like it was a difficult task that he had to move a mountain for me. My husband really wanted to leave but I said let’s give it a second chance. We were eventually moved to a bigger, quieter table. When the server got around to us, he must have been told that I was difficult as you could sense his coldness right off the bat. He didn’t act rude but wasn’t giving us the normal treatment. He didn’t offer any specials, he didn’t explain anything on the menu. It was just “take your order and leave” kind of experience. I could hear him at other tables around us and he was clearly talking and making jokes and more enjoyable than he was with us. I ordered the New York strip and it was meh. It definitely needed the sauce I ordered with it. The appetizers were good. The best prawns I have ever had. Our dinner was $430.00 and after tip about $520.00. I wish I had an amazing experience for that amount of money but unfortunately I didn’t and we regret it and wished we had left when they gave us a hard time off the bat to accommodate us.

It was amazing and the staff was great. I set on the balcony and when I stared getting cold one of the servers brought the heating lamp near me. It looks beautiful inside, the music was not super loud which was great. Oh, the Porterhouse steak was delicious and tender.

The moment you walk into The Rex, you know you’re in for a treat. Classy, luxurious
ambiance, and the service from the moment you walk in is top notch.

You can’t go wrong with any of the apps, the captain’s shrimp and crispy spring onion were some favorites.

Any cocktail you order is going to be great. The dirty martini had hand stuffed blue cheese olives. And don’t skip on the Milk Punch if you are a bourbon drinker, very unique, but oh so good and refreshing.

The wedge with Point Reyes blue cheese was crisp flavorful and had some of the best bacon too!

For mains, our group did a family style sampling so we could try it all. The branzino was a standout, as well as the porterhouse, with some horseradish cream sauce. The short rib was tender and so flavorful, and tagliatelle was great if you want a great pasta dish.

Dessert was a great as well, butter cake was great, the bourbon tiramisu was a hit! Also they make amazing Espresso Martinis.

Overall 10/10! If you are looking for a great meal accompanied by fun ambiance and 5 star service, you need to come to The Rex.

Rex’s Seaside Steakhouse is a Vibe

From the moment we walked into Rex’s Seaside Steakhouse, we knew we were in for something special. The ambiance is upscale but totally inviting—perfect for a night out with family or someone you’re trying to impress.

Our server Angela was the definition of hospitality. She walked us through the menu with so much knowledge and warmth, guiding us from cocktails to dessert without missing a beat.

We started with a round of perfectly crafted cocktails and a beautiful glass of wine that paired effortlessly with everything that followed. The wedge salad was crisp and indulgent with all the right toppings, and the New York steak? Juicy, tender, and cooked to absolute perfection. Every bite was a reminder of why this place is a true steakhouse gem.

We ended the night with their silky panna cotta, which was the perfect sweet finish to an already incredible evening.

I came here with my parents and we all had an amazing time—but next time, I’m coming back with a date. Rex’s hits that sexy, elevated vibe that begs for a little romance.

I came here for dinner with my husband and friends, and we had such an incredible experience! Everything about this restaurant deserves 5 stars.

The staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed. Every single dish was outstanding! The steak tartare was absolutely delicious, and the wagyu tour was an unforgettable experience—definitely worth trying.

Our entire party left completely satisfied. The recommendations were spot on, and we all left feeling happy and full.

Highly recommend this place! We’ll definitely be back.

We reserved for a party of four and arrived just early enough to get one drink in the 2nd floor bar. It’s a cool courtyard with lots of greenery and comfortable couches. One sip into our drinks and our table was ready. The drinks were quickly transferred to our table. Avoiding paying separately.
Our server was friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. Explaining in depth the menu and specials. We decided on sharing a wedge salad and fillet. We also ordered a side of mushrooms and the grilled shrimp appetizer. The sides were delicious and presented perfectly. The salad and steaks were perfectly cooked and also delicious.

I would definitely go back to this place.

We did not have a good experience here. We did not have a reservation, and were seated at the small Bar against the wall and near the kitchen which was a high-traffic area. I believe the bartender forgot to pour liquor into our drinks. The flour dinner was ok but nothing to brag about. For a steakhouse, it fell short in standing out as a good steakhouse. Outside seating available. Street parking only. Will not be back.
