The “Red Onion Sandwich” (on Honey Oat!) is, without a doubt, the. best. sandwich. ever.
If you ask them to hold or change an ingredient of this masterpiece, I can only say I’m so sorry that we can never be friends.
Presumably, there are other sandwiches on the menu at The Red Onion Cafe. You could theoretically order a BLT or some other mundane fare. They apparently sell loaves of their delicious bread and offer a number of other delectable treats. But for 20 years, the Red Onion Sandwich (on Honey Oat!) has been my only choice.
I’m tempted to give Red Onion a single star review for the sin of recently pulling up its roots on Church St. in Burlington and moving so far away. But a 35 minute road trip followed by a 15 minute wait for oven-toasted perfection, and all is forgiven.

$32.50 for 2 turkey bacon sandwiches extra bacon on one. And this is what you get!!!! I didn’t ask for extra mayo!!!! I called for a refund or remake as these where not edible and get hung up on. What great customer service. None of the employees have manners, it’s like a problem to take your order or be polite. And the owner is no better I don’t see how she has made it to be honest. I don’t recommend!!!!

I mean, if you order the Reuben sandwich at this restaurant be aware that it is completely filled with sauerkraut and very little amount of actual meat in it. Paying that much money for a sandwich and being given so little is not worth it. Always wanted to try this café but I’ll probably not go back since there is way better options out there for your money. Disappointing because I’ve heard really good things about this place and was left on my appetite.

Yum. Got two delicious cookies and when I asked for a recommendation on a sandwich I was told to get the Signature Red Onion. Get it! Perfect combo of crunchy apple, amazing turkey, and of course fresh baked bread.

Absolutely revolting… do not waste your money here.
The owner is unfriendly and overcharging desperate tourists in a food desert. Many better options available at any gas station.
The bread was old and dry, inedible.
The services was hostile and awkward… it felt like some sort of surreal performance art piece.
We left our 3 sandwiches uneaten for $43.
We didn’t even waste our time complaining… if they think this is an acceptable standard, there is no hope for them.
This place used to be in downtown burlington but was so bad that locals avoided it and even former employees had warned me this owner is more interested in the bottom line than health and safety practices.
We left feeling ashamed for the owners and embarrassed to have witnessed this con.
Good luck to any unfortunate travelers that end up here.

The Red Onion is a truly unique experience, and one I always come back to when in VT! The owner and workers are always friendly and take their time with each and every customer to ensure the best service, and the food is amazing! My favorites are the Red Onion sandwich on honey oat bread and their snickerdoodles.

Enjoyed their little shop. Would steer away from any burrito from here though because they do a much better bakery option.

Place was great! Love how you you can customize your sandwich. I got one with in house roasted turkey and thought it was a very good sandwhich! My wife got the “red onion “ and loved it
