The food is phenomenal! Stuffed mushrooms were the first thing I ate and they were so good. Our waitress was funny and really cool. The atmosphere was warm, fun German music playing in the backgrounds and but not loudly. Decor was spot on.

Rathskeller has an older feel to it—dated, but still charming in some ways. The ambiance is actually pretty nice and cozy, especially if you’re going for a relaxed evening.
Unfortunately, the food was a big letdown. I ordered the pesto pasta and couldn’t even finish a quarter of the plate—it was that bad. My husband ordered the rouladen, which was a bit dry, but at least it was still edible compared to the pasta.
The bathrooms could really use a makeover, which added to the overall dated impression. On a positive note, they do have a good selection of beers, which might be the highlight of the visit.
⭐️ Overall: Nice ambiance and solid beer selection, but the food quality didn’t match the atmosphere. With some updates and better execution in the kitchen, this place could be much better.

Got the sausage sampler platter. And a pretzel. It was awesome! So….the hot mustard is NO joke! The waitress said it was hot but Internally I was like yeah ok.. whatever. Well I took about a tablespoon worth on my first bite of pretzel. Welp…it made my eyes water and gasp for air it was so hot. But man was it good. Ill definitely go back!

When you walk in, it instantly feels like being teleported to Germany. The decor here is old and provides a great atmosphere. They give you a complimentary pretzel and have an extensive wine and beer list. The food we got was all really good. We got the sausage platter, kraut balls, and potato pancakes. Each were perfectly made. I recommend this place.

This is such a unique and historic place. The Rathskeller Biergarden is a super cool music venue. Has an interesting set up separate from the Bavarian themed restaurant and bar. The vibe is fun. Food is great… Check it out!

Really nice environment and a really tasty menu. There was an event happening later but they were happy to serve us before it started. The food was great and the service matched. All the staff were knowledgeable.

Good sausages, great pretzel, tasty potato pancakes, and a very cool space. Great option for a large group or if you’re looking for some real German food in central Indiana! The spaetzle was not to my liking, but the rest was.

It’s not every day I go to a restaurant and leave a review. It’s even less likely that I leave a review that’s overwhelming positive in every single aspect of my visit. Not only is the decor of the restaurant really cool to look at there’s also a history here. As far as food goes I got the Jaegerschnitzel. It comes with the soup of the day as well as bread service. The soup was a creamy tomato and I’ll be daamed if I don’t try to find the recipe somewhere it was that good. The “bread” service was a big soft pretzel and a spicy mustard. The mustard was really spicy but really good so use sparingly. The mushroom sauce on top of the Schnitzel was to die for. Not only that but the Schnitzel itself was very flavorful and light. The “accompaniments” that I got were the German Potato Salad and the Spaetzle Noodles. The potato salad was a sweet flavor and very delicious. It was an unexpected flavor but very welcomed. The Noodles were very interesting. From what I could taste they reminded me of really good dumplings. I did indulge in a beer when I went. It was the “Warsteiner Isenbeck” a Stout beer. It was really easy to drink and had a great flavor as well. I’d highly recommend. I went for two deserts for me and my partner to share. The first was the Apple Strudel Alamode. It needs every piece of this plate to make itself work but it’s very light and very good. The other was the Rathskeller Bread Pudding. I have few words other than perfection. This last light and not overly sweet. I loved every bite.
The last and most important part of this entire experience was our server. Michael who was are bartender/server was an experience. One of the best servers I’ve ever had it’s not hard to see why he’s been here for 20 years. I was happy talking with him and he made our experience all that more special.
Will I be back? Absolutely they have a outside patio with live music so got to come back for that. They have amazing food so I need to try more. And the staff just watching them makes me feel like there comrades in arms rather than coworkers. My only regret I ate the soup and entree so fast I forgot to take a photo.

Absolutely phenomenal German restaurant. The sausages were outstanding and tasted exactly like what you’d find in Bavaria, and the pretzel was warm, fresh, and perfectly done. The food is truly authentic and clearly made with care. The service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which made the experience even better. The atmosphere transports you straight to Munich. If you didn’t know better, you’d think you were dining in Germany. Highly recommend. I will be back many more times!
