This place is great..the owners are good hardworking people. The guy bought and renovated the whole place himself and did a nice job. The food was really good. The menu is hard to understand , but I ordered the grilled porkchop plate and my daughter got the chicken and fried. We both loved it. I hope this community will come together and support this nice little store/ restaurant and keep it around a long time..

We have been there twice. First we had the fish plate, it was excellent. (A warning it is made like trout with head and all). Then 1/2 chicken with plantains, also very good cooked over coals. Sue had the pork chop which she said was very good. As everyone else notes very friendly people, clean and updated building. It was slow last night, Monday, so we talked to the owners for a while. Hope their business is successful, they have put so much into it; something really different for this area other than more deep fried stuff and biscuits.

What marvelous food! I don’t normally expect to find authentic, great-quality Cuban food in a rural corner of Virginia, yet here it is. For anyone visiting the area I recommend it. I had the ceviche which was great, and the rest of my party enjoyed their orders also.

What a wonderful addition to our community! We welcome the Ranch Market and Restaurant, a true gem in Alton. Very friendly staff, lovely decor and a delicious menu! The owners have put a lot of work and effort into the renovation of the former diner/store and it was worth it (check out the bathrooms!). Everything we have had from the menu so far has been absolutely delicious – from the simple egg and bacon breakfast (Italian crusty white bread for toast!), the ‘causa’, a Peruvian dish with potato, chicken salad, egg and garlic, the ‘ropa vieja’ (“old clothes”), a Cuban beef/beans/rice dish, to the Peruvian roast chicken and fried plantains – a wonderful journey of the senses. Let’s help keep The Ranch around for a long, long time!

I just left there, I got Pan con Chicharron. It is a Peruvian fried pork sandwich. The sandwich was awesome! The bread was fresh and i loved the unique flavors of the onion, pork and sweet potato! I’ll be back, can’t wait to try some other dishes

Wow!! What an amazing hidden gem. I would have NEVER found this place without some friends constantly posting about it. Authentic Cuban and Peruvian food in rural, southern VA doesn’t happen every day. There was not 1 thing I tried that wasn’t amazing. I HIGHLY recommend The Ranch!

Great food. I’ve tried the Cuban and Grilled Chicken Sandwich, both are amazing. Some of the best tasting fries I’ve ever had as well.

U can’t say you are open and not be. U need milk and bread at that store. It’s going to take a minute but it’s rewards will be great. Be fair to your employees as well as customers. U will be happy one day

The service was great and the food is a welcome change from traditional gas station fair. Worth a try. I suggest asking the employees what they’d recommend.
