We were really struggling to find a great restaurant in the Richlands area, and Railway Depot turned out to be an absolute gem. We’ve now come back multiple times because it’s been that good every single visit.
The food has been outstanding across the board. The blackened catfish is packed with flavor, the blackened salmon is excellent, and the chicken fried steak is absolutely amazing — classic comfort food done right. Honestly, we haven’t had a single thing we didn’t enjoy.
Beyond the food, the people there are extraordinarily nice. The staff is welcoming and genuinely seems to work hard to create an environment that’s enjoyable for everyone who walks in. It has a great diner-like atmosphere that just feels comfortable and relaxed — the kind of place where you want to sit, enjoy a good meal, and come back again.
I would honestly ignore the poor reviews because they just don’t match our experience at all. Every time we’ve been there the food has been excellent, the service has been friendly, and the overall experience has been great.
Railway Depot has definitely become our go-to spot in the area, and we’re glad we found it.

An amazing quaint little railroad-themed restaurant in Richlands VA along the RR tracks (of course). The food was amazing and the service was quick and accurate. We were seated immediately. No wait and plenty of parking.
I had the fried scallops. Portions were hardy and tasted amazing. Our server was very friendly and attentive.
We paid $40.25 for two for lunch.
I would highly recommend this little gem if you’re in the area and want some good food.

Coming to the The Railway Depot in the heart of Richlands, VA for dinner really made my day and the visit to Southwest VA special, even on business! Reba was my host, and she recommended the fried okra and the Mega burger, which she created! It’s very delicious and satisfying! A must have is the iced tea, I find it so refreshing that I asked for a pitcher to go.

Our son goes to college in the area, so we’ve now made our second stop through here. Chicken fried steak is great, crisp and crunchy exterior seasoned nicely, juicy on the inside, nice gravy. Mac and cheese is good, so are the mashed potatoes. Wings are good flavor, but if you like them crispy say so up front because they don’t come that way normally. Dumplings in the chicken and Dumplings were nice, but the dish as a whole was a little underseasoned. Good spot to stop, and I’m a sucker for anyone that serves breakfast all day.

My husband and myself have ate here twice and we have really enjoyed it both times. The first time we tried the fried pickles, the loaded ribbon fries, and I had the liver and onions and it was all delicious. The second time I had the seafood platter special and it was fantastic. They did forget my coleslaw but apologized. Both times the waitress’ we had did a good job. We will be returning in the future to try some more of the food. They also offer entertainment on the weekends and have pool tables in the upper dining room.

Being one of the few restaurants open in the area for New Years Day we gave it a go and we were pleasantly surprised about this restaurant. The dining area was clean and decorated with many different train pictures and items throughout the restaurant. A server promptly greeted us and was attentive during our visit. The food was hot and tasted like home cooked comfort food. After dinner we curiously ventured into another room where there was gaming machines, a huge entertainment area, and pool tables. Live entertainment is available every Saturday. Thumbs up we will be back !

Went to the Richlands Freedom Festival and decided to stop at the Railroad Depot for a burger and fries and a pitcher of beer. Our server Miranda could not have been nicer and there was no wait time from the time we ordered till the time our order came. The prices are reasonable. The place is huge with a dinning room and a bar with pool tables and an area where live bands perform. The place is immaculate and beautifully decorated. It’s really a great place to go here in Richlands Virginia.

Stopped here on our way through Richlands. Reba was great, and suggested great menu items. I got the bacon cheeseburger and sweet potato fries and everything was seasoned perfectly and tasted great. Didn’t have room for dessert but will definitely be back!
