Beachy eatery with a patio & thoughtfully sourced, Latin-inspired dishes with many vegan options.

We recently rediscovered The Purple Elephant and are glad we did. The atmosphere is cozy, the service attentive and prices are quite reasonable. The food is of the highest quality and taste with a menu that has loads of vegetarian and vegan options along with non-vegetarian ones as well. If you are gluten free, there’s plenty to choose from as well. The prices are very good for the area and quality. This will likely become one of our new favorite places in 2026.

Super cute place by the water. Came here with a friend but did what to expect as it seems like it’s mostly vegetarian dishes but was pleasantly surprised. Really enjoyed the nachos and the shrimp with guac on plantains. Decor is pretty eclectic. Owner was very nice and staff were great. Will come by again next time we’re in town.

Amazing place to grab a bite. The pics are just apps. Also got tacos and a sandwich. So many vegan and gluten free options. I don’t have any allergies- but I’ll eat good food 😉 and their huckleberry lemonade is refreshing. Enjoy indoor or outdoor dining. Friendly and fast staff.

The purple elephant It offers a gastronomic experience based on the Spanish tropical concept, from its delicious fried yuca to burritos that deliver protein from start to finish. It has a wide variety of drinks, including horchata! And its dessert menu features a delicious and traditional rice pudding “arroz con leche” Its charming terrace, overlooking the bay and the boats, provides the perfect touch for a comfortable and atmospheric afternoon.

If you are GF/vegan and love Nachos, the “Most Excellent Nachos” are the best I have ever had, and they truly are most excellent. I loved the hearty homemade tortillas. It is listed as an appetizer, but I ordered it with guacamole, and it was enough for two meals! The guacamole was not overly spicy, which I prefer. I went to this spot a few times on a visit to LI, and it did not disappoint. It’s a little pricey but worth it for the high quality. I appreciated that they were open on NYE and New Year’s Day. Supremely filling and tasty. I will be back, as the menu covers multiple food styles (Thai, American, Latin, Sushi, etc.) and offers so many vegan and GF options. Highly recommended for filling, tasty and healthy food.

Amazing vegan food! I have been to so many vegan restaurants in Long Island, Brooklyn, Manhattan, LA and this is def top 5 of my all time favorite. The food is delicious, the server was very kind and accommodating with our 6 month old in a stroller. You can eat outside in the back patio where you can see a beautiful view or inside with good Cold AC. Bathroom was super clean. I loved the decoration on the walls and the vibe was very relaxed. People were very relaxed and casual as well. I felt super comfortable and the staff were smiling and very friendly.
The vegan food in the pictures were all 5/5 stars! Can’t recommend this place enough.
The cons: parking is limited and have sign for some spots that are limited only to 45 minutes. I ignored the time limit and was fine. Proceed at your own risk.

First time dining at The Purple Elephant yesterday, and was not disappointed!! The atmosphere is so warm and cozy. The Pollo Magnifico was just that, magnificent! And the portions so large. Lucky me, I get to enjoy it all over again tonight, as leftovers. Can’t wait to return….

I was in the area & excited to try this place for dinner.
Our first waiter didn’t know how to answer our questions & wasn’t informative at all. Thank goodness another server took his place since we asked for more time with the menu.
inside & outside dining available
loved the ambience & atmosphere, great decor throughout the restaurant, definitely loved the vibes. Outside patio faces the marina, very nice.
Very picturesque, & Instagramable location
I tried the horchata (I’ve had better) and one of the house specials: the porch swing (very sweet)
Thai elephant wings were good (but mid way felt very heavy, greasy , & it didn’t make me feel good)
I wanted to try the burrito, but they said it’s only available at lunch time…
creamy pesto pasta…way beyond tasteless…oh my felt like it was fake pesto flavor and mostly pasta…that dish needs to be reevaluated & made with love or something…so dissatisfying
my friend got the beef tacos…& she was dissatisfied as well…she said the meat was over cooked & she couldn’t finish it..
Overall loved the ambiance & atmosphere…but the food looked good…but the quality & taste wise…Not really

Ambiance is 10/10, but food was a fail unfortunately. This place advertises as having healthy plant-based options, but as a vegan I can confidently say some of these items are just a flop and not tasty. For starters, their pickled vegetables that come with every dish are just terrible. This is coming from someone who loves pickled anything. Additionally, more than half of their menu items unfortunately just have that “too healthy” taste if you know what I mean. They’re either dry, flavorless, or simply not what the menu advertises it to be. For example, their “whopper” literally tastes like beans and grass. Additionally, their Greek salad with “feta” is just raw unseasoned tofu crumbled over. Again, this is coming from a vegan who eats relatively clean and enjoys the health food spots in town. It just seems like there was a lack of flavor or effort put into a number of their dishes. Additionally, the food is not cheap. If I’m paying that much, I would hope to clean my plate and thoroughly enjoy the food.
However, in contrast, the desserts are excellent (rice pudding/chocolate mouse). I’m assuming they outsource their desserts considering the vast contrast from their food. I would say it’s worth picking another spot for dinner and heading here for dessert.

A pretty cool establishment that serves mostly vegetarian food. I love the assortment of cuisines, they serve vegan wings, tacos and Asian inspired entrees. The nachos were so yummy and the cheese didn’t even taste like cashew cheese. The vegan wings were very good but I wish it came with more than three wings. The stuffed spaghetti squash was also very delicious. The portion is very large and it was packed with green peppers, red peppers, garlic and vegan chicken. It does taste very strongly of tomatoes so you should avoid it if you hate tomatoes.
