Honestly this place just knows how to do solid food. We came in twice during our visit to LA and both times did not disappoint.
Atmosphere is a great level of charming while still modern. They have nice decor on both sides of the establishment and a lively bar that see’s strong use. I prefer the booths myself but all seating is solid.
The service is probably what surprised me the most. It’s incredibly fast for the type of food and what I would typically come to expect from this type of sit down restaurant. It’s extremely quick service. From food to drinks it all comes out of the kitchen with great pace which impressed me.
Now to the food, I think all around it’s high quality and tasty. First time around I got the chicken pasta and second time the club sandwich. Both were tasty and delicious. The ingredients taste fresh and the portions are large. All in all I don’t think you can go wrong with many of the options. Definitely a place I’d head back to!

We visited The Proper for Dine LA and enjoyed the bar and restaurant. The drinks were good…bar can get a bit loud during happy hour. The Dine LA menu was good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Place gets very busy. Reservations recommended. We all enjoyed our meals. We will visit again in the future.

Proper is, true to its name, a proper restaurant and bar. The food tasted good, but the price was high, so we stuck with the happy hour menu. (Apologies to anyone looking at this post that my photo of the HH menu isn’t too clear.) Some food items were still too expensive such as $11 for 1.5 deviled eggs (that’s like $7.34 per egg which is a lot even in spite of the cost of eggs now)! Nevertheless the food and drinks were overall good. I’d give the taste a 4/5, pricing 2/4 so an average of 3/5. No issues with service – the staff was all very friendly and helpful, not only to my table but also to everyone from what I could see. The decor was really cool and the booths were comfortable though where we were seated the staff wasn’t especially meticulous with cleaning. We just pretended not to see some of the minor evidence of previous diners at the table.

The burger it self was a pretty large one, I’d guess a half pound patty as it had a lot of heft. It had the usual burger toppings, cheese, tomato, pickles, lettuce and a mayo. Taste wise, it was kinda plain and dry. Perhaps it was a bit overcooked as I got it to go. It was hot and freshly cooked – just needed another flavored condiment. Perhaps a nice bright and bold yellow mustard would have done really nice on this.
The fries were excellent! They were the battered style, which allowed them to hold up well and maintained a great crispy bite to them. These didn’t need any sauce as the flavor from the seasoning and batter was in full effect.

Our family had a great family dinner at The Proper to celebrate my wife’s birthday weekend! Filet Mignon was delicious, Barramundi and the Bruschetta Chicken were delicious as well. We also had the Truffle Deviled Eggs and Crispy Truffle Brussels that were both excellent. We even had the chocolate cake dessert. We will be back!

Honestly saw the establishment and decided hey this is worth a try. I ended up ordering a draft beer but the cocktails here are incredibly amazing. The service here also is amazing and the bartender is awesome. Let us know about things around also great in conversation and knowledgeable. The food even though it wasn’t that time of day when we arrived was great for happy hour time. Honestly one of my favorite places to go for a drink and to have a relaxed time with friends. Will be back soon to try many of the cocktails and more of the draft beer selection.

Great service and great food. Wonderful place for date nights. Parking isn’t the greatest. If you plan on drinking, it’s best to get a ride anyway. Definitely suggest the baked brie appetizer. I’m happy to go there any day of the week. Easily one of the gems in La Cañada.

Elegant beautiful interior, really like the bookshelves around the dinning area, very cozy and got that old time charm.
Have dinner during DineLA week, it was a great deal for three course meal.

We had a lunch here and ordered Proper Burger and turkey and avocado sandwich. The foods were all great and especially, I recommend the Proper burger. The meat is thick and juicy. Above all that, the place is great so if you have a friend, its a great place for hang out.
