I looked up the brand afterward and saw it was 100 percent corn-fed, which explains the flavor. For a $32 burger, I expected it to be grass-fed.
I would definitely come back, but I would try a different dish next time, maybe the omelette.
As for the space, the atmosphere is incredible. The setting feels like a retreat, with serene music, great service, and a calm, thoughtful vibe.
The lobster nachos were a real treat with sumptuous bites of lobster mixed with a vibrant pico de gallo, guacamole, cheese, and slightly spicy sauce.
The hamachi crudo was so fresh. The dish was brightened by thinly sliced Serrano peppers, shiso leaves, and a well balanced ponzu sauce that complemented the fish.
The brussel sprouts with bacon were a bit heavy and sweet alongside a main entree. I would opt for a lighter side dish next time, if pairing it with one of their hearty main entrees.
The jumbo Baja shrimp cocktail was refreshing. It contained six large, meaty shrimps on a bed of crushed ice. It was paired with a nice guacamole and cocktail sauce.
Fresh Kumamoto raw oysters from Washington state were very fresh and cold. Although the oysters came with a fermented hot sauce and a mignonette, they tasted even better when the staff brought out a side of fresh grated horseradish. This brought a nice acidity and spice to the oysters.
The spiced lamb lollipops were served at a juicy medium rare temperature and placed on a healthy smear of tzatziki sauce. The lollipops were topped with a mustard caviar that lent a nice salt and acidity to the lamb.
The decor is rich and warm, with rustic woods, clay roof tiles, white stucco walls, and other accents. The restaurant is set against a beautiful natural backdrop of trees and the night sky. A great place for a romantic date night or special occasion.
Special thanks to our server, Henry, for his attentive and knowledgeable service. His food and drink recommendations were excellent.
It is our first time here but it probably will be our regular place to go here in Escondido.
We ordered steak, lamp chop, chicken lettuce wrap, lobster tacos. Everything were very delicious. Well, except for the lobster tacos which were so so. Probably can improve if the tortillas were hand made. Or maybe it is, but not something I’d recommend.
Although you must order the bread that was bake to order. It is the focaccia. For $19 we thought it was all worth it.
Parking was valet only. It is complementary if you dine in .
I can’t recommend this place enough!
My wife and I have the pleasure of dining at The Pony Room frequently, and it has become one of our absolute favorite spots in Rancho Santa Fe. Whether it’s breakfast in the morning sun or dinner under the stars, each visit offers a perfect combination of exceptional food, thoughtful service, and a welcoming atmosphere.
The culinary team always delivers beautifully prepared dishes, and the staff’s attention to detail ensures every meal feels special. Beyond the daily dining experiences, we also love attending the special events they host — they’re always creative, well-executed, and highlight the unique charm of the property.
The Pony Room consistently exceeds expectations and captures the spirit of true hospitality. It’s a place we return to again and again with joy and appreciation.
