This is the ultimate 70s authentic fine dining experience. It is not a recreation of a 70s restaurant it is a living relic from that time.
The Point is a revolving restaurant at the top of iconic Wrest Point casino tower. Design by famous architect Roy Grounds, it is still the tallest building in Tasmania and affords incredible views of Greater Hobart and the River Derwent, which is at this point of its course is a large estuary.
The dining experience has all the classic French style flambéed dishes such as prawns, Steak Diane and crepes suzette. The menu itself is on the classic side and not very adventurous but all the food was well prepared.
The service was attentive and generally prompt, generally matching the image of the restaurant.
For me the highlight was been able to have a glass of Penfolds Grange, which was an affordable luxury and a real treat.
Overall, and considering the contained price for the level of quality, it was a good experience if you want to enjoy the views and the authentic 70s charm of the place.
The staff were very friendly, and the sevice was excellent. We had two complementary dishes (a starter and a mini dessert) and it was a nice surprise.
Overall, a very pleasant experience and worth the money.
We were so grateful for the care and attention offered by Justin, who was able to reassure my wife who is a coeliac, that almost every dish could be prepared by the excellent chef and kitchen staff to accommodate her gluten intolerance!
The wine menu was well priced and extensive with some excellent Australian wines available.
Justin was always there to look after us during the two and a half hours that we stayed to enjoy the beautiful views, and the ambiance offered in this lovely restaurant.
Justin made excellent suggestions on what might suit our tastes. We chose three excellent offerings from the set menu, which were priced well at $105. I had the lobster souffle, whilst Elizabeth had the heirloom tomato salad with mozzarella cheese as an entree.
The short rib and lamb mains were outstanding with the excellent peach dessert so beautifully presented completing one of the nicest meals we have had for some time.
Having such excellent staff as Justin and his colleagues looking after us during our meal and the highly gifted and professional team in the kitchen will encourage us to return to this wonderful restaurant again soon.
A perfect night in a perfect setting with views of the Derwent River, Mount Wellington, and the surrounding suburbs of Hobart to entertain us during our meal.
I just wanna say thank you so much to all the staff for being so happy and nice. Hobart is a special place as it is, but Having this restaurant here Is something I’ll look forward to every time I come to Hobart ❤️ An extremely high recommendation from me.
