Never came back to refill my coffee until she brought our bill. There was a dropped French Fry in the middle of the walking area on this noncarpeted floor, a couple that left halfway through our dinner pointed it out to the host at the reception desk saying that somebody could slip on that, he came around the corner to look at it and went back to his post, we eventually got a busboy to pick it up. When we mentioned it to our waitress she couldn’t care less, it was, “Oh sorry, have a good night” and walked away…
My $44 Angus New York Steak was riddled with gristle and under seasoned. Amazingly, it was served in a curved bowl laying on top of a bed of mashed potatoes with some sort of fruit flavored gravy, yuck! There was no way to cut this tough piece of meat in a bowl atop mashed potatoes, I had to move it to my salad plate to have any chance of cutting this meat into bite size pieces. Who serves a steak dinner in a bowl!
I will however say the oysters and my wife’s Seared Ahi Tuna Salad were very good.
Never again…
First post: We have only tried the brunch so far but it was delicious. First time there. We got:
Side Pancakes-really tasty however maybe a bit overcooked and tough to tear but flavor yummy! Just not the fluffy texture you might hope for from some pancakes, just a preference
French toast with poached eggs- French toast was basic and good , eggs delicious and nicely cooked
sweet potato hash-super tasty really liked the cubed and sauted dish
Salmon benedict-was expecting lox for some reason, but the grilled salmon was hearty and yummy. We always get the hollandaise sauce on the side, dish had much flavor without it.
All in all food yummy and considering what we got felt light and nothing felt heavily oiled. Presentation could be better but I would definitely take taste and experience over appearance anyday
Coctail- Woodside old fashion(or something like that) not the best old fashion I’ve had but was okay.
Will definitely go back for a dinner! Will update if we do
Everyone at the table raved about their food (swordfish, salmon, ribeye, Cajun pasta and jam burger). The bar side of the restaurant is a little more casual and the dining room is a quieter, good vibes on both sides, depending on what you’re in the mood for.
The service was top notch. I believe our server was Brenda and she was excellent. Always checking in on us and being prompt. She was also sure of getting any dietary issues handled.
We had some mocktails and found them delicious.
The calamari is one of my favorites so far in Santa Cruz. Very nicely seasoned and cooked just right, I’d like it to be a little more flaky but the taste was superb. Not tough nor feeling a little on the bland side.
I had the ribeye and while the precise cut wasn’t my preferred choice it was delicious. It was cooked perfectly, don’t know why so many places can’t get Medium right, but the Point executed it perfectly. It was juicy, good bits of fat (wish it had a bit more fat though), and seasoned well. I think it had a really subtle glaze that went perfectly with the arugula. The glaze wasn’t overpowering or too sweet, it just enhanced the umami flavored and the arugula was also not too overpowering, so you can actually taste the beef.
My wife had the Salmon and thought it was great. It was a nice big cut and cooked very well.
Overall it was a great experience and great food. Our server, Brenda, was superb and that’s something you just can’t get anywhere anymore.
We saw in the area with the older style red leather seats and this is the only part that I didn’t like too much. The decor just clashed and it felt difficult to get a sense of ambience. I saw the other side has the nicer updated look and I’d probably prefer seating there but I think given the fair prices and the location, I don’t think it was that bad.
Overall I’d probably give this place a 4.5, for the update the dining area needs but given the terrific service and delicious well priced food I’d say a 5 is justified.
During my visit with a larger party, we tried a variety of dishes and were quite pleased. I personally enjoyed the burger with garlic fries, finding it delicious. Others in my group raved about the salmon Benedict, Cobb salad, schnitzel sandwich, and huevos rancheros as well.
The establishment offers outdoor seating in a charming patio area, a bar for sports enthusiasts, and ample parking in their parking lot. The service was noteworthy, especially considering the size of our group. Our food arrived promptly, fresh, and flavorful.
I would recommend giving The Point Kitchen and Bar a try if you find yourself in the area. It’s a great spot for good food, a pleasant atmosphere, and attentive service.
