We had a lovely evening in this independent restaurant, and were really impressed and excited to find that there was live music during our visit.

The building is very interesting and has a lot of character, the furniture within has been tastefully chosen.
The menu is a good size and there aren’t too many options which makes the process of ordering easy.

The pizzas were lovely and thin, and the toppings were very flavoursome. The truffle flavoured aioli sauce was delicious.

The ice cream at the end of the meal was absolutely fantastic, I had the chocolate and it was full of chunks of chocolate.

We really enjoyed our evening.

Exceptional pizza! We visited early on a mid-week evening and were one of maybe 5 tables. The 2 girls working were nice enough but lacked a bit of enthusiasm, which was a shame as the pizzas were amazing – definitely the best that I have had in Winchester and I would rate 3 Joes and Pi Pizza very highly indeed. Definitely well worth a visit

Although Winchester does have a number of pizza restaurants already, The Pizza Tavern is a great new addition. As it’s not a big chain, you’re getting great quality pizzas and supporting a local independent business.

My pizza was delicious, and I thought it was very fairly priced for the quality. The service was friendly and efficient, and I liked the rustic setup in the restaurant.

It’s not somewhere I feel you would go for an ‘evening out’ as when I visited, there were not any starters or desserts offered, but it is great for a quick meal if you’re out and about or at the start of an evening out. I will definitely be back.

A lovely setting, and a small but focussed menu with all the dishes we ordered being excellent! Service unfortunately didn’t keep up with this though, with many of the staff being younger and newer to the job. A little guidance or training would give this the potential to become a Winchester must-visit!

When we arrived, after realising the door was tucked around the side, there wasn’t much of a greeting or introduction. We were just shown to our table and then a few minutes later someone came to take a drinks order. Then a few minutes later someone else came to take our drinks order! I think we perhaps slipped through the cracks, with two servers both trying to serve our table throughout the evening, and awkwardly realising things had been done.

When food was served only a few minutes after ordering, there wasn’t much of an “enjoy!”, simply a, “who has this and who has that”. We also were never asked if that was everything, or given any cutlery (or even the option for it!) – I ended up finding some myself as everyone seemed to disappear after our food was served and we didn’t want it to go cold!

As mentioned the food was excellent, with a delicious sourdough base and balanced toppings – you can’t beat a fresh pizza!

Sadly it wasn’t until we were leaving that we actually received some enthusiasm when we were asked about our meal, told a bit about the restaurant (after asking) and given a farewell!

They have the potential, they just need to find it!

This was the best pizza I’ve had in Winchester so far…ultra fresh out of the oven, perfect crust (at least it was perfect for us) and lots of great fresh toppings available. We will be back for sure.

The pizza, service and vibe are what you would expect from a pop up at a food festival, not a restaurant.
The pizzas were good, but everything else fell short.
The service left a lot to be desired. The starter we requested wasn’t available despite being on the menu “we don’t do those anymore”, and when we were asked whether we’d like to see the dessert menu, we were then told that they only serve ice cream and don’t actually have a dessert menu.

If you want to do pizzas in an informal vibe where service isn’t hugely important and an exhaustive menu doesn’t matter too much, then run a pop up or a take out. But you’re advertising as a restaurant, so with that should come great service, a fully up to date and available menu and a setting that makes you want to spend a good portion of your evening there. Sadly all of these elements were missing.

EDIT: the owner would probably also benefit from taking feedback on board rather than sarcastically using an emoji on responses or replying in a salty manner. Lots to learn it seems.

We were unfortunately hoping for more from the pizza tavern and left feeling a bit disappointed. Pizzas selection sounded delicious, but the toppings were very sparse especially any extras and the bases were very soft and found it very hard to pick a slice up. Overall ok but won’t be rushing back

Pizza tasted great. Came out a bit misshapen and service was a bit slow. Not much choice for wines. Pizza didn’t come on a plate, came on half a piece of pizza box. No cutlery or pizza cutter was given and we had to chase them for it and the dip we ordered. Asked for black pepper and the server spent 0.5 seconds at the table and left before we could say if we were happy with the amount given. It was good they offered half and half in one pizza and it was delicious but some simple changes like salt, pepper and chilli oil at the table would have made it much nicer for people dining here. Also feel we were overcharged for one pizza and two glasses of wine for £35. Appreciate it’s new and costs are high but some simple things would make it so much better for future
